Hi,

Just took delivery of a 1974 1000 3C, #1723

Other then the Redax ignition/alternator upgrade, I want to bring it back to original as much as possible.

Are you able to spot the incorrect parts etc? I've already noticed some details I have to change.

Thank you!
Jeroen

Apart from what I mentioned elsewhere, it should have Ceriani shocks but the mudguard is on the right way round.

And speaking of round, a round rear light.

Lovely bike !!
If you are a rivet counter then its the rear shocks, I think the front calipers from the photo, the sqare rear light and not sure if your bike may have had 35mm forks when she started life.
But just go and ride her and forget the rivets!!

Can't tell properly from that photo, but it looks like the wrong instrument/handlebar monting plate. No airbox. Welded patch on clutch case. Wrong seat cover. Wrong rear shocks.
Paul Marx is doing an early one, so he'd be able to steer you in the right direction.

Thank you gentlemen,

Ceriani shocks, seat cover and air filter housing I think. Not sure about the instrument/handlebar.

Period photos show the bike with a square rear light and 38mm forks.

No riding yet. We had 15 cm of snow today and -3C

Nice machine! Keep an eye on your oil cooler. Horns mounted on there have caused fatigue and subsequent leakage, causing factory to relocate horns. Cooler have been replaced already. My 74 (about a hundred copies after yours) has chromed cooler. Sticklers for originality would suggest replacing fuel line with blue/green type.

My bike is 1737 Maurice and the forks are 38mm. The primary case is wrong and the tank looks too high at the front to me but that may be a trick of the light.

Interesting observation, especially the tank. I have to check this. Could it be that a later model tank is fitted?

When did 'early' become 'late'? *1588* came to me with 38mm forks, a 'late' tank (and square tail light): I've also seen another similar number in the States with a similar configuration... Could be the tank hinge changed at the same time as the 35-38mm forks: around *1580* according to Grant

If the square light is correct that early, it's another case of what's at the front on the shelf.
My 74, 2098, has a round rear light and I've no reason to believe that it's not original.
But my 73 SF2 has a square light.

But rear light is nearly a maintenance item. The first thing to go in case of even a mild hit from the back, not to mention safety conscious riders who like to be seen.

Dear Mr Sock, my restoration of 2098 has encountered LJ's reproach since I'm sticking Jota pipes and rear sets on it.
I'm waiting for an official letter from the Vatican any day now.

Paul

I"ve seen the light and et gardez un peu de recul de nos jours  :D

Beaucars here"s mine 1580 January 74,welcome to the 3C fold

Very, very nice! I also like less standard colors

I'm very surprised about the overall dimensions of a 3C, since I own a last series 180 Jota (first roadbike when I got my drivers licence at 18) as well as a Corsa and 1000 SFC and the 3C is small, low and slim, especially at the back. The initial design of an object is always the most pure

Hi, great bike and nearly all there, i would take the primary case of because that welding you see is probably due to the bearing walking out and boring a hole in the casing. Hence the need to weld the casing when fitting the inner part of the Crank support niddle roller it's important to centre punch the Crank end, this will stop it going walk about. Don't hit it to hard or you'll distort the inner.
Hope that makes sense and ho it's already been sorted but i would check.
Regards Andy 😁

That's why I like the earlier bikes Beucars, they are a nice compact package compared to the later bikes. I was surprised how much irrelevant junk they managed to bolt to the back end of the 1200TS for instance for cosmetic purposes. Nice bike by the way.
