I have just removed the starter motor from my 1978 Jota 180, to send it off to Robson and Francis for a refurb. Checking with Tim Parker and Phil Todds Laverda bible, the green book, it states that the triples had Bosch 0 001 160 003 starter motors. Looking at mine its a Bosch but with a part number of 0 001 160 018? Does anyone know what the difference is between these two serial numbers?
Also upon inspection of the starter toothed wheel (starter freewheel?) that sits inside the crankcase, ( which mates to the splined rotor on the end of the starter motor), seems to have a small amount of play in it, is this correct, or should there be no play at all? The play is east to west, if when sitting on the bike north is the headlamp and south is the tail light, if that makes sense? There is no play north to south.
Any help with this would be muchly appreciated.
