1980 Jota - B@#$%^ rear mudguard

Trying to refit my rear mudguard without much luck, The top of the guard appears too wide a the grab-rail/frame mount and I’m not sure that all the mounting points will align. I have been told this might be a common problem. Any suggestions on how to approach this?

It seemed fine when I took it apart a couple of years ago!

They don’t grow. Kink it sideways as you feed it in, using the cross brace holes as the datum
