i am new on here it was a question do i sell or put it back on the road after having sat at the back of my unit for a long time but i want to ride it so i need help i have no spark and no fuel pump sat on youtube for a long time i watched one with the same fault as me but he had a ecu reader and said it was the rpm sensor where can i bye a ecu reader and spare parts if i need them thanks shane
 
Hi Shane from Barnsley. Welcome to the forum. Most of us on here are devotees of the early Breganze era bikes, including myself, so I'm pretty much useless on the topic of the later Zane Laverdas. But there's a few masochistic nutcases here who are into Zane era bikes and will no doubt be able to answer your specific questions. Somebody will be along shortly.

I'm just speculating here, but you may not need to buy an ECU reader. You can download free software that you can install on a laptop to read ECUs, as long as you have a suitable cable to connect to the bike's ECU. I use "TuneECU" with my 2008 Benelli, but there are others like "ecueditor", and some that are make/model specific. I'm not sure what's recommended for Zane Laverdas or what sort of communication cable is needed. Somebody here will know.

In the meantime, here's a few spare parts that you might be able to use in your forum posts ;) :)

Shane, you may find a more sympathetic audience at the Zane' list https://groups.io/g/zanelist devoted to the Zane' era 668 and 750 models.

There's a discussion there about using the factory's diagnostic tool to check if the sensors used by the ECU are connected and appear to be working. There are factory parts lists and service manuals available, the manual also describes using the diagnostic tool, I suggest you should get copies.

The sensors etc with a multimeter, fuel pump will be fcked if you left fuel in it , like Phil said get out of here before they tear you apart alive, Zane list is where you wanna be, these old dinosaurs here can’t fathom the technical foibles of the Zane era bikes….

At power up the ECU checks it can detect all the sensors. If it senses a problem it records that in its memory. The tool is just a visual display device to get a readout of which sensors, if any, the ECU thinks may not be correctly connected. It plugs into a socket connected to the ECU and the bike's battery for power.
The tool doesn't do the checking, it only displays the codes that the ECU generates to signal sensor problems. You'll still need to check the sensor itself or the wiring to it if the tool tells you that the ECU is not happy with any sensor.

Well, they dont.... the 650 unit doesn't work on the 750, and the 750 unit doesn't work on the 650. And then then GuzziDiag doesn't work cos they've added a whole heap of alternative ecu's and I it's too hard to find the 16m PF09 variant, so that eliminates that, but you you could try IawDaig, at least it has the ecu variant in it. Well, at least for the 750, but does it have a P8Pf09 alternative for the 650. Not sure. But then much of IawDiag wont work, eg the Co2 sensor, as the Laverda has different addressing to the IAW in some places, and it certainly wont work without a Lonelec KKL interface cable with a true FTDI chip. (what is an IAW anyway, that they wrote an IawDiag for it).

Anyhow, I didn't think any of the above works to test a PK sensor. I thought you had to use a multimeter....And it's normally the insulation in the supply cable falling apart and shorting to the shielding cable. No wonder it wont work....
