2 laverda 500

Several sources indicate that not only is Wolfgang intending to ease up but that he's going to stop shipping worldwide.
Best would be to ask him directly.

and nobody mentions the six speed gearbox!

I removed the balancer shaft from my race 500 Montjuic in about 1979, not for a tuning mod, but because I was at a race meeting and  there was a very loud squealing noise emanating from the left primary side, so I took the cover off, and the balancer came out with it, not knowing how to re-time it, I replaced the cover and raced all weekend, I did notice very high frequency vibrations, but the bike did go better! so it stayed out, I could not have refitted it anyway, because the squealing was bone dry bearings, and they were sealed for life pre-lubed type, (like you would use in wheels) in a wet chainless primary cover????? cockup there by Moto Laverda for sure,
sold the balancer a few years ago for loads of dosh.

Well,
I have already both frame numbers. Tomorrow i will visit the bikes and make more photos. With this frame numbers... something I should look closely? are those the later engines?

Very likely later engines.
Nothing particular to look out for.
Racing bikes split their crankcase, front, right hand side very often but no problem on a road bike.

Over the past 2 years I rebuilt a tatty 500S from the ground up as a Montjuic clone - all the engine parts were sourced through The Dam in Aus,  pattern pipes from Malcolm Cox, bearings from SKF, carb parts and trumpets from Eurocarb (UK).

Lovely to ride, (ear plugs recommended).

Ok, that is a perfect "confirmation bias"   thank you!

Does Malcolm have exhaust for the 500 also? empty cans also?

Miguel

Those numbers are mid production around ?79/80.
The 500 is a great bike I wouldn?t think twice about buying them.
I still manage to source bits but I agree some are becoming harder to find. But just when you least expect it parts turn up from all sorts of unexpected places. In fact earlier this year a whole van load of new old stock turned up in The Nederland and for quite reasonable prices.

Malcolm has done Formula/Montjuich systems.

something must be wrong with me, I have started to NOT WANT to buy everything Laverda related that I can get my hands on, bikes included! in fact I am quite enjoying renovating the shit that I have lying around and (don't tell per Erik) sell them!
can any medics recommend some pills to cure this? I already take about 20 a day another couple wont hurt.

Hi Piet!

Thanks for your advice. Yes, I don?t expect the bikes to be perfectly maintained, and I am not looking for a concourse restoration, just to bring them back to life and decent looking. I hope those engines aren?t beyond repairable, if I give credit to the seller, the engine should be ok. But what you mention about the spare parts worries me a bit, because for sure I will need some spares! If the usual consumables that are needed for an engine rebuilt are impossible to find... then it wouldn?t make sense to get invovle in that bussiness, ehich would be very disappointing😕.

Who had been rebuilding a 500 engine recently and can share his experience finding spare parts?

Of course I would like to avoid writting you in two months asking for parts and you saying ?I hate to say it but... I told you?🤣🤣

Miguel

I rebuilt the engine in my Montjuic this summer and sourced most parts from DAM Classic Racing in Australia apart from valve shims which you?d need to contact Piet about.

https://damclassicracing.com.au/

If you do buy the bikes try to keep the gaskets from the cam covers because last time I checked DAM didn?t have any. My rebuild stalled in early July when I went back to work after the UK Covid lockdown and I?ve been busy ever since so I still haven?t put the cams back in and finished it off  >:(

Well, finally I didn't buy them. final offer was 5.500? for 3 500s, being the third just for spare parts. The condition was too bad and the money to invest too much also.

At the end I am (most probably) buying 2 Laverdas! a good friend of mine was also looking for one, so we buy the 2 Laverdas together and we will swap them now and then. One SF0 that I posted here already and one 1000 converted to 750 sfc replica (the one on the left), more photos will follow, now I have only this one.
