300mm floating discs

Spent the morning with my surface plate and the wonky disc, got it pretty good but I?ve got no fingers left😬

The new Redax titanium pins are VERY tight, what ?slop? should I have to achieve ?float??

The floaters on the 3c rattle around a bit probably 0.5 mm side float. Hard to measure.

Can?t say I really understand this ?floating? concept myself: have you asked Red? What did he say? ???

Discs get extremely hot if your hack handed on the brakes, I use mine a lot but not like some idiots you see on mountain roads constantly lighting up their brake lights. So the theory is solidly mounted discs get extremely hot and expand and with no play in the mounts warp and hold that distortion when cold. Floating discs allow some expansion so this warping is avoided. So there is full floaters and part floaters and that's the difference in play. The full floaters tend to rattle and non-Ducati owners don't like that. As long as the play isn't rotational I guess it's your choice, Marty, having it similar would be good though. I think another downside of full floaters is they could knock the pads back in a tankstapper.
I expect the more lateral play the more likely it would start the rotational flogging that causes the rotational play that destroys the buttons. Titanium ha, sex on a stick. Hard to machine and long lasting plus light.

No need for slop, Marty.  Just as long as the rotors can move sideways a bit they will work fine.  They will quickly centre themselves in their own sweet spot.  Pad pressure is a lot higher than what you can summon from your thumb.  Vince is correct, lots of slop can push pads back a fair bit after a while of non-use, not only after a tank slapper.  Can be quite un-nerving having to pump up the pressure before actually being able to slow down...  Not much of an issue on a track bike where brakes are in constant use, but can be a very different story on the open road.

I've had pads fully retract after a tank slapper on my new sticky 17-inch hoops (take note, Carlo!) with solid Brembo discs, simply from the inertia of the pistons in the calipers. Not even a little bit funny! Suffice to say I had serious rebound damping issues ,which caused the nasty slapper in the first place, that were sorted very soon after!

I have 3 bikes with full floaters. They all tend to rattle a bit, mostly at walking pace though.
Have had a massive tank slapper at speed on one, pads never retracted (in comparison my sphincter).

Going to be hard to machine as one side alloy other cast iron.  Red must have a special jig.

I did my RGA's 320's many years ago, yes you make a fixture to clamp the carrier and disk in one setup and bore each hole as 2 halves.  Not a big deal if you're set up for it but certainly not a handyman operation! :)
Red should be able to offer the machining service also?
