3C instrument bracket finish, any suggestions?

I’ve just had my 3C instrument bracket stripped and repaired, any suggestions on recoating, was it originally just painted black

Yep, satin black is good. Standard finish

Yes, satin black would be my recommendation too! Anything glossy can become a real pita due to sun glare.

I got my 3c with a polished instrument bracket, obviously done by a previous owner. Not a good idea though; I covered it with black duct tape as a temporary fix and have been meaning to use the last five winters to finally paint it matte black properly ...

I dug through some old records; satin black was indeed the factory paint finish, as shown in the pics from the April 1975 test in the German magazine *Motorrad*:

And remove the other keys from your key ring to keep the finish pristine...

Rattle-can sheen varies, depending on the brand. In my case, Krylon 5X satin, which requires no primer, was too glossy. Their matte was much better. Not sure about availability over there, or if you are open to using a rattle can. Not as tough as a 2K job, but easy to touch up if needed. I already had both types on hand for a previous project, so I gave it a try & I like it.

Cerakote gives a hardwearing finish for a little more cost but it will only need doing once, and yes, keep other keys away from it.

VHT caliper is a good match for sure. Krylon stuff I used is still good and cheaper, but not for hot parts. And yeah, going up in price (Cerakote, 2K) is better in the end.

I went in a different direction than the original black, not for everyone, but I like it.
