3C reg/rec interesting problem

If I recall ? Does not a voltage GEN light or say a voltage gauge run in a Parallel circuit with the battery charging circuit from a generator or alternator whether or not the Alternator has a 3rd terminal. I believe you have to run a DIODE in the parallel circuit with the GEN Light so that the light only lights up when the battery is discharging. Obviously a 2 prong Alternator does not have this diode as you have no connection for the charging indicator light. A good way to test it is to remove the Alternator belt and run on the Battery.

FUCK! If I can remember all you have to do is simply return the Parallel Indicator light back to the Alternator casing with the Diode or keep it in the charging circuit - That's for you Guys and Gals to look up!

AMP Gauges run in Series on the same battery charging circuit ?

Take for example your neutral light indicator runs in parallel to ground through your neutral tyranny switch.

I highly suggest you wire your low voltage starter relay circuit to ground through the Neutral Tyranny Switch so that you can only start in Neutral - Saves Starter Clutch Blowups if you accidentally hit the starter button and engage the starter with the engine running (Particularity at Hi-Revs). That's if you don't have a Do Not Start unless the clutch lever in pulled in which early Berganzies did not have this feature.

NEVER include your Hi-AMP secondary starter circuit from battery to starter through the AMP Gauge = POOF ;o)

PS: Why I homage Gal Motorcyclists is because while street racing all night in Toronto Vs a very FAST Suzuki 650 back in the 70's the rider was an Korean Girl - She simply knocked my socks off at her front door.

Nothing like street racing a Jap Bike when you're a young a Irishman on a Italian motorcycle and suspect it's a she whom can't get away. Man she could Dance that motorcycle  = Fond memories with my Laverda ;o)

That Girl and one night ride  reminds me of this Song:

Lost 2 close motorcycle Buddies over 2 stroke and 4 stroke Kawasaki's back in the early 70's.

I will never forgive Kawasaki.

Concerning wiring in the Generator lamp on a 3c.

GEN light will not need a diode typically. One side is B+ battery and the other side is the regulator with a light bulb (mini-resistor) in the middle. Any excess 12v current moving from the B+ battery to the regulator (discharging) will cause the light to come on.

Any excess 12v current moving from the regulator to the to the B+ battery (overcharging) will make the lamp come on.

On my regulator there was one white wire to the GEN lamp. That is one side of the bulb. The other side of the bulb is ignition on battery 12v.

When the switch is on engine not running the GEN lamp is on. 12v flowing from the battery to the regulator. When the engine is running there is a balance of 12v/14v+ on each side of the bulb. GEN lamp off. If the system is overcharging the bulb comes on (maybe dimly)

There's a flaw in your thinking. A globe connected between B+ and the RR won't light up when the battery isn't charging, mainly because it doesn't discharge back through the RR. There's a bunch of diodes in the RR's bridge rectifier to prevent back-flow.

Indeed there are a bunch of diodes in the VR. Not on the relevant charging warning lamp circuit. The GEN lamp will illuminate when the charging system fails due to no B+ balance and current flow through the bulb. See the typical 3c/Ducati VR wiring diagram. It is how GEN warning lamps operated since the automotive electrical dark ages.

OK. That's a single phase RR with a specific output for a GEN light. I have one of those on my MHR Ducati. What I've been looking for over the last 10 years or so is a 3 phase unit with a gen light output.

I think what we need to know is the Product and Model Number of the Alternator Dellortoman is using and perhaps a schematic of the Alternator to eliminate conjecture.

Is he using a Generator or Alternator - What Make what Model ?

Dunno what sort of alternator, but it's of no relevance anyway. Like any other alternator it produces alternating current. The RR doesn't care what the source of the alternating current is. Only relevant bit of info is that it's 3-phase.

Shindegen SH 530-12 .  Redax said

sort of, the Shindengen 530-12 is a 3 phase regulator, I know that is correct as they are what we used on our previous 250 watt x 3 phase Series 1 charging system upgrade

Cam,

Try Shindengen SH530-12. Often used on Kwacker 500 four strokes.

Thanks Gerald, but you've missed the point. I have a SH530-12 on the bike at present. But it doesn't have an output to drive a gen light. That's the whole gist of what I was saying. A 3-phase RR with a gen light output seems to be a mythical creature.  I've never found one anyway. I now have a digital voltmeter on the dash to tell me what the charging system is doing.

Here is a photo of a Sasche unit that I bought through Redax.  It is a #5A unit, suitable for a 750.  My bike also has Sasche ignition and Nology coils with Redax custom alloy mount that positions them just behind headstock.  You should be able to scroll left to see front of unit.

Looks like a DC voltage regulator, not a regulator/rectifier. It should power a generator light. Wire the light between B+ and 61

I think a lot of people are over thinking things here
Marty 14.6 is fine for an ignitech and a d?ka they can survive 14.8 no worries.

I run charge lights on all my 180?s no big deal and the RGS runs a digital unit built into the dash 😃
