Go for it. I own it's very slightly younger brother 1000*1567* and couldn't be happier with it. Of my 3 triples (78 Mirage 1200 & 83 RGS) it is the most enjoyable to ride. Feels lighter and the engine will respond cleanly from 1500rpm.
I originally found it in bits but complete about 15 years ago with 25,000 miles on the clock and the only reason it was not running was a very dead ignition unit ( the original mounted to allow moisture in - usually replaced under warranty and mounted opening to the bottom) I have retained this ignition after being rebuilt by a friend with more modern components producing better performance. They are really a form of CDI magneto and are independent of the battery - will run without any battery in fact.
In my opinion this is the best build of all early triples - Big 200mm headlight, 38mm Ceriani's, Front Disks, and Nippon Denso switch gear.
But only if you bypass the engine stop relay.
This depends on the battery to prevent the ignition grounding. On later bikes, the relay interrupted the ignition circuit.
