3CL or 3C

The 3CL came on the market in 1976, as far as I know. But can it be 75 model out there, without the hinged seat?
It has the correct rims. Check out the web site Mobile.de
Was a happy owner of a SF2 for eleven years, but sold it last year. Now I am looking for a 3CL.

or someone chopped off the seat hinges and the bracket for the seat lock.
wouldn't be the first triple frame that was "customized"

Putting on my rivet counter hat, looking at the photos it appears the engine has only 2 webs on the crankcase which from memory would put it earlier than 1975, possibly 1974 at the latest. So probably a 3C with later wheels fitted.

Is this the one you are talking about?

The seat is neither from a 3C or a 3CL, at least not without a lot of messing with.
Do the engine and frame numbers match?
If not then it could be a collection of parts made to look like one or the other.
If the frame is from a 3CL then they will have cut the seat hinges off, but check on the other side where the seat lock should be. They may not have cut off the bracket for the seat lock, but if they have then there will still be a 'dent' in the frame where the seat pin clears the frame before entering the lock mechanism. Unlikely they would have filled in this dent.
If it has the seat lock bracket and/or the dent in the frame then the frame is from a 3CL.
Also check where the rear brake master cylinder is bolted to the bracket on the frame. Does the bracket look factory fitted? Weld quality, angle of m/c to connecting rod to foot brake pedal?
The 3C had surplus brackets there for the rear stop light switch and also for the rear brake cable. Is there any evidence they have been removed, or are even still present?

If the engine and frame numbers match, and the engine has only 2 webs on the crankcase behind the left side of the barrels (next to the oil filler cap), and there is no dent in the frame for a 3CL style seat to locate then it is a 3C with 3CL wheels.
If not all of these points match up then it may well be a bitsa.
Nothing wrong with that but it should be advertised and priced accordingly.

At that price it should be the genuine article.

Thank you all, most helpfull. The bike has matching numbers(he says). I have asked for the number, but I did not get it yet. From a picture I can see the two first digits, the first is 3 and the second looks like a 8 or 9.
There is one more thing that's odd, the two lugs (I think it's called)on the frame, behind the tank, that fastens the seat. They are screwed on, not welded, as on my SF2. Hope this helps. One more thing, the engine has tree webs on the left side.

According to the registry on Laverdamania it's a 1976 model then, which fits better with the wheels and brake type.
Just has the wrong seat then.

Davo is correct...

I had/have two Laverda 3Cs in the 70's..the July 1974 engine/frame #2057 (I still own and ride it) had two webs on the engine case. My 1975 3C which had an engine/frame number somewhere around 2400/2600 (I don't recall exactly) had three webs....the  three web change was somewhere in between.

Don't know how an engine number of 3999 would have the two web case...interesting.

There's a jota 120 for sale in nl, not far from aachen. Check www.earlymotors.com. No relation with bike or seller.
