3D printed tank strap TPU

I was thinking about replacing my tank strap and as I looked at the new one I thought that they don't last long so i should model it and 3D print one for fun...:cool:.
Rather than a round section it would be flat on the bottom to address the overhang. The nice thing about tpu is that it seems really strong and of coarse it if breaks a slight design tweak and re-print.
Has anyone tried it? I will make the file available after my TPU dries and prints

Haven't made tank straps yet, but my printed battery straps seem to work well. Sick and tired of them giving up after only a season...

Tank strap should work OK, but why bother with a round section? Hardly anybody will see it.

Personally I gave up on tank straps decades ago - there's simply no way they will keep a full tank in place due to the crap factory design of the horizontal U-mounts on the inside front. Very common to see damage to the seat front as a result. Angling the U-mount 45 degrees downward solves the problem permanently. Not for the rivet counters, naturally!

Please explain or show with photos your end mount of the tank strap and strap routing to stop the tank sliding back under load and vibration into the front of the seat - I have several 750 twin tanks that have severe wear at the back from rubbing on the seat - all paint long gone!
 
This is a tank strap for triples? I am not sure they suffer the same as SF with the tank falling back into the seat.
For SF we have carefully ground off the spot welds and rotated the front mounts forward and tacked them on again with a mig.

I hope Christo is reading this!! :mad: Only a few members will understand what I'm talking about. Walky will be one of them.
 
Unfortunately mis-information, irrelevant information and buried information is a reason I don't show up much...and here I am off topic...

I will get TPU into the printer today and print a strap.

I put files up in the resource section. EDIT For some reason the strap did not print full height...almost like it only prints the top half. Further investigation required. EDIT2 I will repost when I find what the problem is

Thank you, I made one in TPU from your design and it's an excellent fit on early triple.
For the twins, given the very little stretch in TPU, it's very hard to get onto the pins - first is easy enough but the second is a struggle given the little space between pin and frame tube, so I'm going to try making it a little longer and thinner.
