3rd 4th noise

Can anybody help? I have a 750sf when the bike is warm I get this annoying tapping noise when in 3rd and 4th gears, when slowing down. the noise disappears when the clutch is disengaged. Its fine in all other gears, and the engine runs well,I have changed the drive sprocket, checked the engine mountings, and generally checked and tightened all visible suspects.

                                Thanks  Brian

That shouldn?t hurt anything.
When you disengage the clutch you just separate the constant mesh gearbox from the crankshaft. If the dogs are partly engaging it should still make the noise with the clutch disengaged.
What happens if you spin the back wheel with the clutch disengaged with the bike on the centre stand when the engine is warm? Try all the gears.
It could be something loose and rattling. Chain contacting chain guard? Chain connector link hitting something?
Strange that it is just those two gears though.

Have you had the bike a certain time implying that the noise is new?
If so, you could have a broken gear tooth. Rare but does happen.
Take the plugs out and with the bike on the stand, turn the engine over and go through the gears. Should give you a good idea of where the noise is coming from.
