Hi,
can any of the experts here tell the make of this brake for sure?
Aftermarket or original equipment for a certain bike?
230mm, 17mm axle fits, 36 spokes -ideal data....

Thanks in advance,
Ernesto

Still looks like Grimeca to me.  Alloy levers and hub construction are typical and very similar to what Benelli and Guzzi used in the 70's.

I fitted one of these to the 750 GT of OCTs' Roger last summer, works very well using an adapted original handlebar lever.

Guzzis had different brake plate locating, see earlier thread. :D  Otherwise, very similar, so, possibly aftermarket version of the Guzzi unit.

Bugger, you're right.  The guzguz had a slot that located on the fork leg rather than the less elegant torque stay.
Look otherwise very similar though, perhaps the OEM who made the brake for Guzzi doing a bit of moonlighting on the side?
Any ditchpump experts know who made Guzzi's brakes?  And forks for that matter, Dad's V7 had MotoGuzzi branded forks too.  I doubt they made them in Mandello.

Didnt Guzzis have those oddball forks with a sort of sealed shock absorber internal with a little bit of oil for lube.

Pretty sure they were their own design, possibly manufactured in-house at first.  I seem to recall they were later made by Marzocchi, but still carried the MG branding.  Cheap but effective design with renewable damper elements.  Average rider didn't need 500-click adjustabilty back then... :D

Got a pic of the mechanism now. Maybe this could shed some light
on the make? To me, it looks like Grimeca.

Yes. But I think they introduced them with the Tonti frame models.
Before that (V7 etc.) they had conventional forks.

Nothing that exotic.
Christiane's 1983 V65 has that 'cartridge' fork damping system, but it's not in the context of the modern 'cartridge fork' description.
The 80's Guzzi cartridges are more like a flyscreen door closer or similar.  Quite basic, but they work.

Interesting; mine went pearshaped many many moons ago and I sort of assumed Bitubo may have been the OEM as I haven't found any other manufacturers <not actually looked very hard>. I had noticed the Bitubos were relatively pricey and, not realising they were deemed 'exotic', held off replacing them. Might take another look once I've finished rebuilding the motor, the BM etc etc.. ::) ::)

Sort of a bodge but you can increase or restore the damping on those Guzzi dampers by drilling through the body inside the threaded boss and drain, measure, refill with heavier oil. Did it on my Le Mans years ago and it made a huge difference.
