on the bikes that came with the grimeca 4ls did they use a splitter box? I'm going to use matador levers on my bike so can't won't be using a dual cable lever. Don't like the looks of the couple of splitter boxes i've seen (the plastic one and the TZ version) are there any others i've missed?
Seems like the bicycle world has some versions of 1 in to 2 splitter but haven't seen exactly what i need.
Is there a 2 in to one cable that can be used with adjusters at the end of the cables down on the brake stays?
thanks
Don

Don: My Morini came with a nice rectangular shaped metal box/splitter for its Grimeca front drum. I've seen some of these (or copies) on ebay recently, but why the objection to the dual cable lever? Had a Guzzi with such a lever (and a friend has a V7Sport now with the same lever) and this seems a much better solution.

i'm dead set on running the matador levers and perches like these

so that won't work with the dual lever...
anyone have any photos of the splitters and are they normally attached to the frame? lower triple clamp?
thanks

Idealy you want two cables running to a compensator beam at the lever to give nice efficient actuation, bicycle stuff is not going to be near strong enough. It seems you are more concerned with how it good looks rather than how well it works this is not the best path to follow when designing your braking system.

the cable splitters are not attached to anything other than the cables themselves. Single cable in from the brake lever, with that cable maybe less than a foot long, then two cables out, one to each side of the brake drum.

for my now former 8000 series drum brake SFC 750 fitted with a  Ceriani four leading shoe drum, during the build I fitted a dual cable front brake lever assembly, which just didn't look right to my eye. After an extensive hunt I sourced a Menani cable splitter from John Scerri of LyteDrive in Australia. Don't know why he had one to sell, but I bought it, brand new, for what seemed like a lot of money for a little cable splitter assembly, about $110 plus shipping, but I wanted it bad.

by the time the Menani cable splitter got here to me from Australia to western Canada, I had sold the bike, and the Menani splitter never got fitted. I think it is likely out in the garage in one of my parts storage boxes. If you are interested, I'll go look for it. It is a metal case, with a clear front cover, and a Menani logo on it. The Menani cable splitter is what the Laverda factory used on their four leading shoe drum brake race bikes back in the day, so presumably is the "right stuff" which is why I wanted it so badly that I paid ridiculous money for it..... ;)

.....and why, Don, it will cost you dearly to acquire it....+1 re: what Keith says.....I still am not comfortable with the one into 2 metal box cable splitter on my Morini (stock set up)...I mean, one cable breaks and no brakes on the front...can live with than on the rear, but if the front goes..... :o

Don,

Menani also make a neat dual cable set that can be fitted to most single cable levers and perches.  All that's needed is to drill the nipple bore right through the lever.

I can't have it all???

I have used both types of set up on a TZ 4LS in the past, the stock TZ splitter was far superior in feel and rigidity, although I appreciate that if the top cable had let go then no brakes would have been the end result, (I am typing this, so obviously it never happened!)
The TZ splitter also made the bar set up much neater and you couldn't really notice it hidden behind the headlamp, but I guess it comes down to a question of personal aesthetic choice in the long run. With the TZ type you at least wouldn't have to drill/weaken the lever.

Why not just use a twin cable setup? eBay 170700202794, '72 Suzuki GT750 lever, brand new. They worked pretty well in the day and a single broken cable wouldn't be a life-threatening event.
Don't know if the '72 GT750 actually went fast enough for it to be a problem, if the frame didn't tie itself in a knot they'd usually run out of petrol accelerating up tp speed :D

thanks everyone.. think i've got most of the options here. now to decide.
Just out of curiosity why so much concern on a cable braking... only a 4ls even has two?? makes it sound like we should plumb in a second set of brake lines on  the disc brake bikes..
as a note when i was racing as a a novice i raced a yamaha TA125 and on my second race pulling up to the starting grid the front brake cable stretched and came to the bar... the flag dropped and off I went with just a rear brake... still finished ahead of three bikes including a gsxr.
Brakes only slow you down

hi , anybody know where i can get brake cables for Yamaha 4 leader front hub ?, with adjusters at hub end ??,thanks , Bert.. 8)

Probably from the same seller that supplies Rocking Horse Shit, find the individual threaded fittings on another cable and use them as a donor to make, (or make yourself) cables that will do the job, (I had to do this in 1980, so if you do find any stock cables, you are so, so, lucky it is untrue!).

Back in the day..Benelli 650 used a cable splitter on the Grimeca 4ls front brake which worked well. Yes, if the single cable from the lever broke..have fun.  Never happened to me...and I had the bike for years. Splitter on sale at Ebay USA..$25.

I fitted the same big Grimeca 4ls brake, supplied by the Benelli importer, on my old 450 Desmo with the same splitter..worked well there too. No problems.
