Good morning all -

I have picked up a low mileage 650 Kevlar that I'll be working on as a winter project.

It's the first Laverda I've had, though I do remember lusting after a yellow 668 back in the day. It's the same machine mentioned in this thread here:

The poor thing appears to have been neglected for the last couple of decades, but looks like it should tidy up reasonably well once I get down to it.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a parts manual for it?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike, that looks complete apart from the seat which you can get second hand from Alan Bell. As in other thread, relays from Ducati shop, big wiring diagram from Ted at ILOC (worth joining fee). All manuals are at http://laverdaclub.eu/links/downloads/. A full service plus new fuel hose when you do the fuel filter will sort it - or reveal why it was taken off the road. This can all be done in half a day. I say that as before you spend ages (see excellent thread on Zanelist on 650 Formula resto) doing cosmetic stuff you should hear the engine run just in case it was parked up when the big ends failed.

I am curious, on the other thread it said there was no plate on it? Have you got the V5 ok now?

UK bike with the UK specified headlight so presumably at some point was UK registered? if you can find the reg number somehow (photos, documents, old tax disc) it is simple to get the V5 from DVLA by completeing a V62 form and paying the fee, last time I was aware of it that was £25

Hey guys - yes, the seat is wrong, but we're pretty sure that the correct unit is laying around somewhere. It does indeed seem mostly complete, apart from a few minor broken pieces, for which I'll start drawing up a list once I get it onto the operating table.

No V5c at the moment, but just posted off the V62 form to the DVLA this morning, along with the £25 fee, so hopefully that'll sort itself out in due course.

To confound things there isn't an key either (sounds dodgy, but I did do a VIN check to be sure..). I have both the ignition switch and helmet lock/seat release off, but looks like I need to pop the cylinders out of the housings to see if it has the lock number on them (or otherwise a new set of cylinders), and unfortunately both are in the locked position, so I think I need to try my hand at picking the locks to the On/Open position to get at the cylinders. Mr Amazon will be bringing a set of picks tomorrow, so will have a go.

Fully agree on getting the engine running before much else. Once I have confidence in the engine, the plan will be a full strip, so if there is anything found to put right, it oughtn't be a big trauma, parts permitting.

Thanks for the link for the manuals!

Do you have a link? - struggling to find this thread. Also who is Alan Bell - does he have a shop? - doing a search shows many references to him on this site, but I can't see any contact detail or website.

As Clem said, it’s a UK bike and so will have a registered keeper somewhere. If it had been stolen it would probably not be wearing its VIN plate like it is. The problem is the UK DVLA registered them under a variety of model descriptions - or none, with the short 4 digit VIN, ie 1087 is all it will say on the V5 (at least my three have been like that). The long VIN ZLV650SP100001087 is not used so won’t help you - I guess this what you checked?

It will be interesting to see what the DVLA say. I am guessing that they will fail to match it because of the above model / vin issues, but it should be possible as “Laverda 2 wheel motorcycle, 668cc, 1087“ fully identifies your bike (and it’s probably got a matching engine number too - although that is a mixed blessing 🙂). A few minutes on the Police National Computer would turn up the registration I guess, if they would help you? You do want to be sure it’s not stolen, so maybe they might?

Good luck

seems like he knows the reg number, without knowing it DVLA will not issue a new V5. Vin number or not, Makes no difference.
It works, by first you send in a V62, DVLA then write to the current registered keeper, whosoever that may be and asks them if its OK to trtansfer the reg, if they dont reply within six weeks, you get the V5, so there is always a six week wait, and add a bit because DVLA will not be able to process this immediately

to be clear, I do not know the reg number, I’ve sent the form with that field empty, and a note to explain. It’s possible/likely that it’ll be returned to me, unprocessed, but it’s worth a first attempt.

It’s a good point that I hadn’t considered about the potential for a shortened vin, all my other bikes from the same era have the full VIN. Time will tell.

I suspect that an mot testing station may also be able to retrieve the reg number, but am not sure. I’ll pop over to see my local MoT mannie at some point.

Seat pad already sorted. Do you have a top yoke nut in decent condition, the one I have is a bit mashed.
When you say top yoke nut, do you mean the slightly domed item with the little round holes? If so, probably not but I will have a look when I get back home and have had a chance to get down to the work shop.

Exactly that - I can get this one rechromed, and it'd probably be fine, but someone has been a bit brutal with its' removal in the past.
