750 SF1 fork cap leak

Before I pull the forks apart to see what's going on, can any knowledgeable 750 fans tell me if there should be a small hole in the fork leg caps?  And if so, what stops fork oil lightly spraying out?

Hi Rob.

That hole is supposed to be there. It goes to just above the pressure relief ball (which is held down by a spring, under the slotted screw). The hole is the air exit point.

It shouldn't give out oil though.... Take the slotted screw out and see if you have the spring and ball in place. If they are not there, air and oil mist/creep will be transferring via that little hole every time the forks move.

The idea behind the ball valve is that when the forks compress hard, a little bit of air is pushed past the ball and so a small under pressure is maintained in the fork, thus helping the seals keep the oil in. During normal fork movement, in a bimble around, there should be no air/oil getting past the valve.

I just measured mine that were jammed stuck- 4mm
