750 SIDE PANEL SCREWS

Just had the 750 side panel screws ? original Laverda Part No ? 30 490 306 ? made in Stainless steel ? these have the 7mm thread and will fit all Breganze 750?s except for a very few early Gt?s ? which had 6mm ? ideal to tap to 7mm if yours are missing/ rusted etc. The close up shot shows some of the very fine machining marks ? but screw looks like chrome original when fitted to panel. Cost is ?12.50p a pair or ?7.00p for one. Unfortunately they are just oversize for the cheaper rate of UK post so post is an extra ?3 for any amount up to about a dozen!. EU postage is ?4 extra and  R.O.W. is ?5extra.

You have to squish the panel flat in the middle by tightening the shit out that screw or the side panel will fall of and sure then hell a car will run over it before you can reclaim it. A thick rubber washer along with lock washer between the Panel and the frame helps - but would not count on it.

Suggest you drill a small hole in the panel and use a fishing leader and loop the leader to the frame if you don't intend to loose a 750 SF Side panel.

In other words, your always reaching into you pocket for a quarter before you mount to ensure them damn side panel screws are good and tight and hope they remain that way before the end of your ride and don't loose a Side Panel on a Breganzie 750SF ;o)

Funny. I just got on the forum to look for a pair of side cover screws for the '69 S frame and here is this thread. So I go downstairs to check out the frame and the cover mounting holes. I take one mounting screw out of the '74 GT. It is 7mm 1.0. I go over to the S frame and the screw doesn't thread in (left side). I get the tap and die kit out and start checking things out.
The right side of the S is 7mm 1.0 the left side is NOT 7mm 1.0 or 6mm 1.0 (I don't have 6mm 0.8 tap) So at this point I am guessing one of these brackets was welded to the frame before lunch and the other was welded after lunch; OR a previous owner made a special modification.
Another reminder for me to "Not assume".
The frame has been painted. So...
1. remove and replace the 7.0 nut with 6.0, weld and touch up paint :unsure:
2. drill and retap 6.0 to 7.0 :unsure:
3. purchase two different mounting screws :confused:
4. drill holes in the corners of the covers and "wire" the covers on :oops:
5. bang head on wall until my headache makes me forget why I am hitting my head on the wall 🤪

Your 26xx S frame would have had m6 0.8 both sides based on the frames I have in same number series so apparently somebody already modified right side to accommodate an available later mounting bolt and probably best to drill and tap original left side to m7 1.0 and get matching bolts else you'll go crazy trying to match them up each time panels are taken off and get one cross threaded and have to do it all then - the snug rubber plugs behind the panels generally do keep the bolts with the panels when panels are taken off but Murphy says they'll get mixed up sometime.
Your option 2 assuming of course that it's OK not to be totally restored to original spec - I do hope you're not that far OCD :)
 
On the SFQ I've made my own SFC style sidecovers, held with two M6 bolts. I sourced some all-metal stainless locknuts (a-la nyloc, but no plastic, so heat-resistant) and they were tack welded in place. Unfortunately my welded was a little overenthusiastic and rather than a tiny tack to simply keep the nuts in place he gave it a good dose and the heat meant the locking system is no longer as effective. I think I can peen it back to function as designed.

I dind't think thére were so many messed up screw ,i would have to do a séries, but summer coming , and i won't have time , winter is better for doing lathes .
