750 Starter Motor

Hi, apologies for what may turn out to be a really stupid question but I have just purchased an SF2 with many issues, one of which is a really grotty starter motor, turning it by hand is relatively easy but very rough sounding and so I want to pull it apart and overhaul, but I can't get the end cap off, I have taken the screws out and it's just stuck. I have serviced Zane and RGS starters before so am not totally dumb but don't want to get heavy handed with what seems to be a rare item? So am I just being to soft or have I missed something? Will also do the sprag
