750GT - Knee pad fitting tips

Well, after turning the air blue, and failing miserably several times, just wondering if anyone who's done the job has any tips for fitting the rubber knee grips to a 750GT tank?

In theory, the lip on the edge of the grip should fit over the  lip on the tank, but despite soaking the grips in warm water and taking it slowly, I cannot for the life of me get them to go on. I get 3 sides or corners on, but the last side/corner just falls off!

I thought of using cord inside to pull the lip over, but that doesn't seem to work either.

According to Shaun it's pretty straightforward  :) :-\

Any tips, before I throw them in the bin?

Well were for me :D Are early the tank pads different ? And you have later ones, just guessing here.

Maybe  try gentle heat with a hot air gun on the pads and silocone spray on inside of the rubber flange .

Hi both,

They're new rubber pads from Andy Wagner. Old ones I took off were like Bakelite!

I'm pretty sure they're the right ones (tank has the matching flange to 'hook over'), just can't get the last corner on, and the lip to seat correctly. There's obviously a 'knack' (the factory must have been doing them in minutes), just haven't found it yet!  >:( ::) :)

I can tell you that the reproductions are not exactly the same, I never succeeded to fit one of them! Another set supplied by Wolfgang was finally ok, although not easy to install.

Hmm. So it's not just me!

OK, I'll keep persevering, but try to order some from Wolfgang as well - I know he was due to do his annual trip to Italy soon, but guess that is on the back burner!

Yes, he told me last night that the trip to Europe has been cancelled.

Wolfgang can fly into Germany, providing he would find a flight. His problem is probably returning to Canada, again finding a flight and possible quarantine restrictions. He may well be better off staying out of Germany ATT. Medical services and testing are very limited, displaying that the government is not up to the task at all. My daughter in law is very ill, with all symptoms of the disease, and had to put up with a lot of crap until she was tested. Now she has wait 5 days for the result.

be careful with your exposed skin, but try some petrol, it makes the rubber slippery, and temporarilly expands it a bit.
I have never tried to fit Laverda knee grips tho' !

I sincerely hope you have more practice using condomes than putting knee pads on...  ::)

Probably not in fact.

I'm from the free love generation.
Never knew the free knee pad. That's for youngsters.
