750GT starter sprag clutch; gotta ask for directions

I am looking for a description of how to rebuild and maintain the starter sprag clutch for my 750GT. But I haven't found a posting. My clutch had been previously "put together" by a guy for me. But yesterday I started the bike with the cover off and some sparks flew out of this clutch. I removed the clutch and a couple of rollers were out of place along with pins and a spring. I have put it all back together, it is still off the bike. This clutch was completely dry, shouldn't there be some type pf lube? Or would that cause slippage???
Would someone please direct me to some maintenance info? Thanks in advance.

Replace the rollers, springs and pins. And yes it requires lubrication. Some use oil I use grease. If using grease it needs to be a very soft grease. A hard grease will cause the pins to stick and not push the rollers out. Chain lube is also OK to use.

And most importantly, cleaning and lubing the clutch is considered part of normal maintenance. It should be done every few thousand miles.

Yes, lube is essential. Light oil or grease, each has his preference. I've already used margarine as a roadside repair. It works fine.

If your clutch has run dry, it probably needs a complete overhaul.
Give the guy who put it together a phone call.

The service interval has not very much to do with mileage. If you start the bike and do 10 000 miles, do you need to service the freewheel.
I'm lucky to have freewheels with oil holes on all my running twins which means an occasional squirt of 3/1 oil.

OK thanks 1200ts, Andy and Paul. :D I thought there should be some type of lube; but then second guessed if a grease was too stiff It could hinder the rollers and the pins. And oil might just run out. I just wasn't sure and thought I would consult the knowledge-base.
Thank you guys. 👍

Been discussed about a day ago - some use oil/lube, some don't. I don't, never have, and have never had a problem with the starter clutch beyond the usual periodic maintenance requirements. And BTW, when my SF was my only means of transport I was covering tens of 1000s of km every year. 1973 SF1, bought it 2nd hand in early 1975 with 19,000 miles on it. Bike had 62,000 miles on it within the first 18 months of me owning it.
