Is it just me, or is that a very odd failure of the old dipstick?
Ahh… wrong dipstick… are you suggesting a possible cause? It is odd, why would it crack like that? Vibration maybe.
BTW, please don’t point out my failures. I may be an old dipstick, but really …..![]()
Indeed. I’m in a Frenzy taking Mental Notes and having Second ThoughtsThe Kiwis should know all about Split Enz![]()
But I wondered as well. It's a diagonal split, there are no other marks on the metal shaft that might indicate impact of any kind. The split dipstick is the correct one, and I assume the original. Vibration and a flaw in the metal? It is odd, why would it crack like that? Vibration maybe.

It has extended far enough that I'm glad that it didn't drop a piece metal into the bottom end before I noticed it.Yep, flaw in the metal, exacerbated by the stamping operation during manufacture. From there vibration and thermal cycling (albeit gentle) continue to expose the original flaw.
It would probably have stayed in the bottom end. A lot of stuff collects there. It has extended far enough that I'm glad that it didn't drop a piece metal into the bottom end before I noticed it.
