750SF1 Starter Noises

Once in a while the starter in my SF sounds like a metal pail of rocks. Is this normal? Otherwise it works fine If I try it again. Thanks - Ben

Rebuilt the starter clutch with new springs pins and rollers before you try to start it again otherwise damage to the clutch will occur. Parts are easy to get.

That sound is perfectly normal in a starter that needs urgent maintenance
Lots of threads on here about starters and the sprag clutch, worth spending some time reading The sprag springs and rollers in particular seem to need replacing long before you notice any problems, and a strong battery is important too.

And, the starter clutch is considered a maintenance item. It should be periodically removed, cleaned and lubricated. By the time it starts making bad noises, you will need to replace parts.
