78 Jota in Florida

Jota?
I've never seen the 3CL stamped across the Frame No. before, on any 3CL.
I've seen a couple of similar 3CE stamps, mine doesn't have it, so not on all 3CEs.
July '77 would make it a '77 model, which seems a bit early for Marzocchis.

Hamish, it was your loss as I had a great time again 😂 It was really good catching up up with the local Laverda mafia, they are so kind and caring, always looking out for me and making sure I enjoy myself 😂😂🍺🍷
Currently sitting in Dubai airport, It’s 12.00 am and I fly out at 2-15 local time and arrive back in Oz at 10-15 pm today. It’s a long haul but worth it 👏😂
Ciao Tom

I think you might pass Scott in the air travelling the other way.

I have plenty of 3CE (diaganoly stamped) chassis number photos in my dating archive, I have a feeling that Breganze altered bikes had the stamping and "ordinary" 3C's converted before sale by Slaters did not get it, which might explain why there are variations in the "added in" bits, fork yolks for example, some did some didnt, 38 rear sprocket (totally wrong for top speed by the way) some did some didnt etc etc

Last time I rode my 79 Jota anywhere near top speed, I had to hang on tight, and the helmet buffeting/noise was practically unbearable. I would have gladly opted for shorter gearing to make moving from a standstill less tiring on both me and the clutch. I put an '81 fairing on the mirage I built. So much better! I think the speedo was off, 'cause guy I sold it to was twice my weight and stated the needle wound past maximum number.

There is a remote spot that we pass through a couple of times a year, and the first time I ran my phone on the bars with it doing GPS duty, it put a lot of 200-plus tails into perspective. Getting above a true 160 on a narrow, bumpy country road while glancing down at tiny numbers on a screen with sweeping bends approaching took some hard concentrating. That was between 6 and 7k in 5th, speedo needle swinging about wildly. That was my limit, done it a couple of times. It wasn't something I would do regularly, and never anywhere with even a slight chance of getting caught. Just too much risk for reward.
