Hi all,
have just bought one, the bike I dreamed off since I was 14, its in my garage with my fizzy's more childhood dreams!
anyway, she was an Italian import in 98, has 4c cams, tuned head and jota pipes, bellmouths and todd ignition, last owner 12 years, nice nick or is getting that way been cleaning it for 2 days and currently fitting new rear tyre listed her in the gallery to be a good boy on placing pictures!
I live in colchester, any Laverda owners close? jota has fresh oil, needs tappets doing and I think needs tuning up properly, can anyone recommend an Essex Laverda person that knows their stuff please??
all the best and nice forum :D

Welcome to the forum Numpty, and congratulations on the new purchase.

Being a 79'er it might be worth checking the engine number against the list of 397 bikes in 79 that were fitted with dodgy main bearings.
From number 6204 to 6594 and
From number 6598 to 6603

Most of them would have been fixed by now (factory did a recall) but there may have been some that slipped through the net. If it is in the dodgy group, I'm not sure how you tell whether it was fixed or not. Perhaps the factory mechanics stamped them. Someone on here will know.

Nice looking bike.

Cheers,

Thank you for the reply I will check that and thanks for the nice bike comment, seemed to be spending rather a lot of time on the garage dont know why lol!! :D

Welcome Numpty, I have had a 79 Jota for 10 years and most things have been done....crank, head , ignition etc etc.....if yours doesn't smoke after a good workout, isn't noisy, changes gear readily and ticks over you have been blessed so don't touch anything! If on the other hand you are not so blessed and the DPO has been busy, I and others can help point you in the best direction for fixes and hopefully spare you the agonies and expense of discovering the best sources of work and parts!

Thank you, am happy today cleaning and messing about with small stuff, awaiting improved fasteners and tyres to fit before I venture out too far on her, chucking it down with rain anyway so dont care today! :D
will keep all informed and if any Essex owners are on the forum or rideouts etc please let me know, when I took it out last week met a chap about 2 miles down the road that owns a jota have seen him about, amazing stuff, small world sometimes had a few people turn up out of nowehere to check her out, do love all that, great to own one at long last :D

As I said in an earlier post I alway draw a crowd when I stop, and they all want to chat when I want to leave, especially when I have ear plugs in.
