82 instrament cluster

I have an 82 Mirage with the European instrument cluster with the speedo in Km. This has always annoyed me driving in the USA.
While ideally I would prefer the older round clocks, I was thinking that this Mirage cluster is actually quite common on Japanese bikes ( IE 79 Honda CB 750 SS). I was wondering if that would be a direct bolt on or is the speedo not calibrated correctly? Does anyone know of another bike that uses this cluster?

I know this is a weird thing. I am just getting tired of trying to figure out how bad a ticket I am going to get on the run. I rather just look at the speedo and know what it might cost me to get pulled over. :D

Mar,

I can supply NOS mph speedos... but only 80mph max! (fuel crisis relicts) :o

Going cheap... even swap for the km item.

Honda Bold'ors had them, but seriously doubt the drive ratio would be correct.  Other Honda speedos don't work correctly and all triples had the same speedo drive (except very early SFC1000 with Smiths guages).

A quick cheap fix is to leave it as is and get a digital bicycle speedometer.....good for daytime but the ones I know of are not illuminated for night riding. I fashioned a small 12v light to shine on mine for my 750 SFC. These speedos can be set to be very accurate. Ensure you get one with 3 digit readout.

Mar, if you are selling the instrument cluster I will buy it.
PM me please if interested.

Piet, thanks.  I do on occasion find myself wandering past 85MPH. In fact those 85MPH speedos have always offended me. I don't want to get off on a political rant. However here in the USA we have way too many safety nazis trying to justify their paychecks. The 85 MPH speedo is a nasty reminder.

Grant, I am not planning to get rid of the original cluster. I would like to keep it as an indication of the real original mileage.(even if it is in a box.)

I suppose I could just get eye surgery so my old eyes could actually see the little red numbers.

I have a new unused instrument cluster of the type you describe (as fitted to 120 Jota, late Mirage, etc.) It's in mph (not kph) and has Hesketh logos.

I have no need for it, so it's for sale ;)
Photos available.

Alan :)

Speed will work but Tacho wont, problem I found, (as I tried the same swap) was that the Honda faces illuminate in green and the original Lav ones were in orange, (like Suzuki GS 750 etc).

Hesketh ones bolt right on and work as per Laverda units.

Exactly!
Identical unit except for the logo.
