A piece of loose metal in my RGS generator housing

When I removed my RGS generator housing I found a loose piece of metal (see photos) attached to the magnets.

Any ideas where this metal might have originally come from?

Thanks Alan, does this need to be slotted back into place or does it look like it has sheared? If so, do I need to replace anything?

Is this the culprit? There appears to be part of a tab allen bolted and which has a rough edge. The manual suggests this should be a longer tab. What role does it perform?

The only part that looks remotely like it in the parts catalogue is 35; described as ‘plate, free wheels gear spindle’.
