Admin - How should we place pictures? (on the new site)

Hi Rob

In ye bygone days of olde, it was preferable to implant a picture via a web link, rather than upload it, to stop the forum's data store getting too big.

Is that still the case now, or can we just upload pics without a worry (its so easy now)?

Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul

It would be a great help if folk continue to link to their photos & video stored externally to minimise the file storage space needed here on our webserver.

To illustrate this, since the forum came back online last week, photos and video have been uploaded at the rate of ~29Mb/day. That's ~32Gb per annum, 10 times the current filespace used for the complete forum application with its files stretching back to 2001. That is not sustainable for a free LaverdaForum service. If I remove the facility to directly upload video, photo uploads would consume ~2GB per annum at current rates.

As you say, it's now easy to upload here directly - this is to help folk who don't have their own online photo storage or are unable to easily access it whilst travelling etc. I guess the message is 'use it, but please don't abuse it'!

Thanks Rob

That is why I asked really - I was concerned the new ease of photo posting would cause a boom of data going up to the forum and wasn't sure if we had the capacity to do that.

Thanks again for your brilliant work. I'm in awe of what you do here. Paul.

Question about photos: I can see normaly photos in my od post when i check forum on my phone but i can't see photos on my computer. Also if i try post reply my topic i paste link to photos and i don't se photo in preview. Any clue what is wrong?

Any clue what is wrong?

Not really. If the link is a valid link to a photo then it is viewable as soon as you insert it in the message...no need to preview.

Are you using the 'Insert image' icon? And do you click on the link icon in the little box that opens to insert the image URL? See blue arrow below.

You should not use the first 'insert link' icon in the message menu bar - it will work, but the image won't appear in your message

I usually upload pictures to another site and than just copy link generated for forum. This is working on all forums including this one before update. This is screenshoot from my phone and i can see photos in my old topic https://www.laverdaforum.com/xf/threads/90328/ but they are not visable from pc.

i know that i can upload photos directly to forum.

maybe site that i’m using for uploading pictures is not suported anymore by the forum?

Kinda looks you will not accept PIC transfers from sites unless you DOWNLOAD the PIC to your drive and then upload into the forum.

Could be a good thing as if the original site dies - Laverda Forums maintains the PIC ?

But wish you would keep HTTPwww// (*&IIOUGHHGGUI.JPG or say:
[URL]HTTPwww// (*&IIOUGHHGGUI.JPG[URL]

No - that's not the case Ron. You can link to any photo or other media on here, and that is the preferred option as I previously said.
