Advice On Bead Blasting Media Grades

Lots of experience with bead blasting but now I need to purchase the actual beads. There seems to be a
number of grades or sizes of beads to produce a nice finish for example on a brake backing plate casting.
I am also guessing the Chinese produce inferior media sold in the West. Thoughts about technical specs
to deal with suppliers. I have found vapor blasting results in a too bright shiny finish.Let me know what has
worked for you. Thanks.

Had my cases, barrel, head etc blasted with walnut shells. Result looked like factory sand casting.

Fine glass media produces a matt finish on alloy, but walnut will be gentler as it's softer. Another option is bicarbonate of soda, which will be more abrasive but won't produce a polished finish.
