Advice please! šŸ™ Laverda 1970 750SF

Hi,

My brother passed away unexpectedly last year, leaving his labour of love project incomplete - a 1970 750 SF. I thought Iā€™d like to complete the restoration but the task is more than I can take on and my elderly parents need the money from its sale sooner-rather-than-later.

The motor is almost complete, having just been picked up by the restorers and the rest as in the photo (more to come). I know he was looking for roller cages for the bottom end (I donā€™t believe he found them). Itā€™s currently located in east Gippsland (Australia).

We need an honest valuation but identifying parts is difficult when you donā€™t know what youā€™re looking at. Where do we start?

Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Very sorry hear of your brother's passing, Julie. I'm sure between us in the Vic Owners Club we can help in some way, as Dave has mentioned. I don't think there's a part of an SF1 and later that I don't recognise - the 1970 model differs a little. Sounds like a list of everything missing would be the first step.

Bike is worth far more in one piece and running that is for sure
Talk to Dave from the Vic Club and see what you can work out with him

Engine is in one piece so not certain why he was looking for roller cages for the bottom end, need to strip the whole engine to get to the crankshaft
We have all the required crank parts in stock, located just west of Brisbane
But you should first talk to Dave and see how the Vic Club can assist

Good pick up, Marnix ... could well be correct.

I may have some spare big-end cages. Will investigate. Apparently they are rarer than rare, so understandable why they are yet to be sourced.

Going by the forks, upper engine and rear shock mounts, it definitely once started out as a GT model.

Big end cages are no problem, I've got boxes full of good used ones if none can be found locally.

Oh, interesting! Thank you. I looked at my notes again and itā€™s 1972 - I donā€™t know if that changes anything.

Once Iā€™ve got some clear photos of what we have, it should make identification much easier.

Thank you, Piet. I know that he had trouble finding some parts, (and was completely computer/tech avoidant) sadly, he didnā€™t document anything and so we have no idea.

Iā€™ve spoken to Dave, and heā€™s going to help me work out what we have and what to do from there.

What a nice bunch of people you all are! ā˜ŗļø

We're actually a bunch of mostly grumpy old men... that can be nice when we put some effort into it! ;)

Pretty sure Dave and Quentin can set you up to help you progress.
