Advice please

Wait till I get the whips out.

If this machine is a special and not going to be used for touring high miles then
a light chain is ideal. Most cam chains on race engines get changed every rebuild
and do hardly any miles.

If a drive breaks chains there is a problem as chains should wear not break.

The Astons at Prodrive run on a tiny 8mm chain and non have failed, except on the straight six
which was a drive layout issue.

The old chain adage of high speed = low torque seems to have been forgotten and rewritten
as high speed = big f... off chain. The single chain might or might not wear but wont fail.

In Germany they are putting 2 standard iwis chains on the primary and still have no problems,
and I mean standard iwis industrial.

I dont know where you are based but I do shows all over the place, 3rd Shepton, 11th Ardingly etc etc.
Drop in and I will show you the options.

Hi Andy,

"Based" in Belgium, but regularly out and about so dropping in is no problem.

Not fussed about saving every ounce of weight as I'm certainly not building a race bike, however I do like to optimise everything so will be sheding a few pounds where possible.

Cam wise I have no issues in running a single chain, if you tell me that the chain you supply me is strong enough then I'll take the plunge!
Make it a real good one though!  ;)

Primary, tell me, is it worth the gamble for 300g?
This will be a 360 degree 1034cc Twin running at least 10.5:cr  be designed for stump pulling torque in low and mid range, and a decent top end too,  If you can sell me a single link chain that will fit in the same position on the same sprockets and tell me without any hesitation that it will be at least equally as strong, then I will go for that one too!
But remember that when it will be ridden at it's max, I will be responsible for someone else's life, It will not be me riding it at full whack, I'm not good enough, I don't want to take risks with other peoples health  ;)  only my pocket  :D
A primary snapping and locking up is not a funny thing!

I will supply an iwis 88 link single cam, no problem.

I will supply a Merc duplex and a heavy duty single (Audi R4 cam chain) you can make the choice
just return the one you dont use.

Next time your near Birmingham drop in.

Andy

PS I do a wicked Fraser Nash chain
