Air filter material

Chums, apologies if this has been spoken about ad infinitum, but I need to renew the 'packing' on the original filter for my Jarama. Don't want to chuck something in there that will cause problems etc. All suggestions gratefully received. I'm working nights at the mo so am here till 08-00. Cheers  Stuart

I used that gray fluffy home air conditioning filter element material. That's what its made to do.The other options are the foam used in Unifuilters, its supposed to be oiled. That is mandatory if you do any dusty off road riding but can be power restricting.I have also heard here of blokes cutting up paper element air filters used on other bikes.

Why not use a purpose-made filter?  I have fitted these for years without issues.  Not cheap, but washable/re-usable, similar in construction and quality to K&N.

If you cannot source one, drop me a line.

Hope those green filters for the triples have not been available 2 yrs ago, Piet. :o Back then I spent quite some frigging time with cutting a K&N 33-2647 (Rover 2.0 TDI or so) to fit to the triple airbox :-X. At least that K&N came up for only half the price of the green thingy and it works just fine... however, would have spent that extra $$ gladly for a direct fit solution.

Regards,
Stefan

Think they have been available for about 4 years Stefan.  Oops... :D

Must be a bunch of enthusiasts, they have quite a few exotic brands in their portfolio.  Really don't know where else one could source a Voxan air filter.

yes, have that green filter in my 750 S Formula, same size as the RGS/SFC Airbox...

The point why they have so many available is, that they do one-offs if you sent them dimensions, too. from the point they made the filter one time, they store the dimensions in their database and offer them for sale...  ;)

The manufacturer Green Filter is at 3/4 of hours from my home ...

They have a reputation for being passionate, and make filters for exotic motorcycle brands (a passion), but make good filters

It is easier to find under this brand filters for Laverda and other "special" motorcycle than for standard production bikes

PS: to this day I have not had the opportunity to go to their factory to see how are they filters, and on phone, I did not have good explaination

I find it hilarious to see a photo of their filter, from Germany ... :D

Merci Piet !

You can make new seals for a trimmed filter by covering the surface to be sealed against with cling film.
Use high modulus silicon sealer to build a generous bead along the edge of the de-oiled filter.
Apply vaseline to the contact part of the lid or cover and close lightly.
Leave overnight to set.
If the filter edge needs some support a bit of wiper blade stuck to the mesh before using the silicon gives it some form.
Obviously getting the correct one if available is preferable.

Piet, I presume that the 3cl filter fits in the 1200TS box, they list it only as up to '80, or maybe not ? its a bit difficult to see as the pics are postage stamp size
Does this GREEN filter offer any advantage over the Wagner 180 filter with 2 replaceable elements ?

Will be the last filter you ever buy for the bike, washable over and over... plug and play, fits into the original box, all triples up to the introduction of the RGS range.

Good idea to junk all the baffles in the 1200 and late 1000 air boxes.  Were required to conform to noise regulations, but intake roar won't be heard over the din made by Jota pipes. :D

piet, is this just a generic diagram or does it correctly depict a 1200 airbox, I am sure parts 50 and 51 are not present, it they are what you refer to as baffles.

Nope the Laverda Paradis drawing is a 'one size fits all' generic type of document.  Sounds as though you have an empty airbox which is what you want-the filter element slots in half way up, as shown in the photo from Stefan earlier in this thread.

Don't know which diagram you're referring to.

All you need is the shell, back plate, filter element and the 3 connecting tubes to the carbs.  You can leave the remainder in the scrap box or inherit it to your grandkids... they can flog it on fleabay for $$ in a couple of years time. :D

1200 carbs need to be converted to 1000 spec to make it work.
