I found that many of my original aircleaner backplates are damaged - the plastic is brittle and splits easily. This motivated me to model and print a replacement backplate .
It is printed in PETG, which is fuel & oil resistant, and much stronger that the original. It doesn't have the depressions in the back side of the plate, which serve to weaken it. They are't necessary, I print it with 20% infill, which makes it light and very stiff. Seen from outside the bike it is identical.
The aftermarket airfilters I have are quite floppy, so I added a slot to support the back side of the air filter. - see photos. (I take all the other junk out of the airfilter)
I designed it to be printed in two halves, then glued together using a joiner. The reason for this is to get it to fit on my printer, was too long in one piece. Both the LH and RH parts can be printed at the same time, if the printer is big enough.
If anyone is interested, I will post the .stl files in Resources.
I could also print you one at reasonable cost, pm me if required.
regards,
Steve
