Alloy Swing Arm

One of the few times that I got onto the web last month, I saw a thread about various after-market swing arms, but I've just been back over the index, and cannot find it again.

Was there any consensus about a good, alloy swing arm that will not cost an fortune?
I think that acomodating slightly wider tyres was also mentioned.
(I looked into the idea of a 1000SFC item a few months ago and, aside form the cost, were wider at the pivot tube).

Dale,

You'll find the stock twin swingarm will easily accomodate a 140 or even a 150 tyre, it is quite a bit wider closer to the pivot than a triple swinger.  The chain guard is the limiting factor.

How much rubber do you need?  A 750SF with a 18" 130/80 rear can become quite stubborn, don't think anything larger will be any better...

I have a swing arm from a tripple so that I can run a rear disc.
Not really chasing fat tyres, but am fitting some Avon sport tyres because they were recommended as the stickiest tyres that I could get in Malta and they only come in a 140 rear (and the roads here need very sticky tyres).

Therefore, I anticipate problems with the width.

Mostly, though, I would like to find a lighter swing arm.
Had even considered geting one made locally, but want to exhaust the market for available items before taking that route.

If what you say about the width of the original swing arm is correct, I might end up fitting a lug to mine so that I can fit the caliper carrier and the tyre.

He's already got one, Grant!

SF3 swingarm = 3CL swingarm

The "wide" swingarms were only fited up to SF2.  These also have the wider RH axle slot to accomodate the QD sprocket carrier/drum brake wheel.  Fit nicely in triples! :D

Dale, a 140/70 on a 3.50" rim fits in a triple swingarm easy, done it, seen it, etc, etc.... lots of triples running 140s here.  Like I stated, only limitation is the chain guard.  Even works with a #530 O-ring chain.

yea,  mainly the inside wall.  so i hacked that out of a CF chain guard for plenty clearance with a 140 tyre.
reckon Clyde's chain guard just might be the lightest, eh?  sorry Boba,,  i am from da canefields!    ::)

Ha ha ha ha - did you use a gas axe

Hi dale - i've run a 130 tyre on a 2.75" rim for years on my 750SF - I've just had a 3?" rim built to take a 130 tyre - tons of grip available - and, as piet has said, I don't think any advantage would be had with a larger tyre. I know how glazed the maltese roads are - the Avon race compound sticks like s--t to a blanket! - Regards - Phil
