I have a 1978 Laverda 1200 that need the Alloy wheels painting and my painter says he needs to know if they have magnesium in them so he can use the correct paint. Can anyone tell me what the wheels are made of ie straight 100% alluminium or a mix of alluminium and magnesium they are too heavy to be complete magnesium, they have Flam embossed on each wheel

I’m not a mechanic, engineer or metallurgist.

Straight aluminium I’d say.

Just get a rattle can out and spray them yourself. I sprayed a back wheel 40 years ago and the paint is still in reasonable condition (although it was a spare wheel and it sat unused for the last 30 years) ;)

I have found that the silver alloy wheels respond very well to as good rubbing with burnishing compound.
mine will need repainting in the future but not just yet.
