Chain time for my 3c. It's been a while, and I am keen to try an X-ring. Anyone got a recommendation and the number of links required? Not changing sprockets this time. Rear steel looks fine. Also looking to buy an RK riveting tool; it looks pretty easy to use from this video.

I'm on my second one, Vince. Changed the first after 20,000 miles. Largely, because I couldn't believe it had lasted that long.
Chains, back in the 20th century wouldn't last more than four figures. On one Factory Trip, I fitted a new chain and sprockets before I left, they were trashed by the time I got back, eight days and 3,800 miles later.
106 links, IIRC, on a 19 front, 40 rear sprockets.
Couldn't find availability in that length, so I got a 108 and shortened it, with a DID KM500R, as it was too much of a struggle for my old Whale breaker.
The 500R is a well made piece of kit and does a good job (see photos), not cheap though.
My current chain, 17,000+ miles in.

Similar DID chain (VX3) but 520 on the SFQ - 14,000km and have hardly adjusted it, handling a lot more ponies than a stock SF. Also have the KMR500 - strong as buggery but not super easy to use. I end up grinding the pins back when shortening the new chain. And I cheat and use a split link - I have to use the tool to press the plate on before I can get the spring clip on so doubt I'll have any issues with it going AWOL.

Running a DID 50VM for 32000km on my Triumph Sprint RS, single swing arm.
Sorry, no Laverda...
CLS-chain oiler from start, chain is in very good condition and will do another 20000km.
Perhaps 10% of available range of adjustment used.
