Alpino cam box oil supply

More questions regarding the Alpino design - this time oil supply to the cam box and to the Cam buckets. I notice the oil to the cam box is pumped up the 4 outer stud clearances and the oil exits to the outsides via a small hole in each stud hole in the cam box. I note that each of the small holes are different diameters - the largest of them being to the exhaust area which is the furthest from the oil pump supply .it appears that this is the cam bucket that often seizes ( as mine has) which results in a stuck valve and then unwelcome contact with the piston.... . it would seem more logical to have the small drillings also on the inner sides of the stud holes to allow oil to flow to the buckets easier especially for the furthest one from the pump. Has anyone modified the oil passages to improve oil flow to the buckets.
Another thing I noted compared to other engine designs is that the buckets themselves are very long at approx 26mm compared to other engines which have the buckets only between 16mm/20mm long. for example on the Triumph speed 4 ( which is - granted a more modern design) the 25mm diameter buckets are 16mm long which appears to be adequate for a much more powerful bike that has a higher rev ceiling.
I also note that some engine designs have grooves in the cam buckets, presumably to provide oil retention in the bucket bores.
Has anyone modified the oil supply to improve it or modified the buckets.

The only real issue these engines have is overheating and consequent warping of the exhaust side of the head. Unfortunately, this trait affects many air-cooled 4-valvers. The basic design is as about as sound as it can be, fit a Formula/Atlas oil pump for enhanced oil flow/cooling and it should soldier on for almost forever. An oil cooler would also be quite beneficial.

The Zane 650/668 were based on these motors, with some work and a bit of care, even these can made to last... for a while at least. The 750s stretched the design a bit further, these can also be made to run reliably once the shoddy factory manufacturing flaws have been attended to. Liquid cooling and a far more modern head design addressed the overheating issues on these. On a whole though, the lube system remained basically as before, only with a considerably beefed up oil pump. Measures were taken to cool the oil on its way to the head, but the air-cooled 650/668 still had their issues.

Wifeys' 500 has done a good 40000km without issues since I overhauled the engine in 1991, keeping an eye on proper valve clearances, correct fueling and ignition timing does help to keep things running sweetly.

If you have issues on the exhaust side with cam bearings or followers, I'd suggest you first check the head for warping/collapsing in that area.

I think these engines are quite sensitive concerning oil supply. I made some meassurements concerning oil supply to the head and found that with oil (10W40) at minimum level at 20°C above 2800 rpm the oil support broke down completely. At max level under same conditions and 6000 rpm there were a lot of air bubbles to be seen in the oil flowing back down. So riding an Lav 500 I would at least keep an eye on allways having oil level at max. For the use of an larger oil pump I modified the oilfilter with a cap.

OCT sells the Tapets on the left side ( lenght 23 mm, 19.1 g) they worke very well.
original 26mm, 30,7 g
