Can anyone confirm what capacity was the Kawasaki alternator used in the original John Wilson big alternator conversion John made for early 180 bikes? My memory was they were from a 250cc Kasasarki twin and were ratted at 450 watts. I remember Will dredged a bunch from a local weaker that was closing and sent them to Red to be covered maybe 10 years ago. The query is either they produced 200watt or 450watts. Hello, John you out there in sunny Batmans Bay.

The ones I buy from Red are rated at 250W.

Ok, that confirms me being WRONG.So my bike started with I think 115 watts, then John added his EI that allowed the original EI coil to be changed to another charging coil in the std alternator making 2 charging coils and after he did some experiments in a Regulator that he hoped would increase the charging current. That failed with some high tech stuff about spikes. In the end, he removed all the std alternator bits and added the Kawasaki alternator that I thought was 450 watts but was 250.

These days with LED headlights etc drawing so little power we won't need such big alternators as before. When will they make LED replacements for our old standard inserts?
