An appeal for advice from Dutch members

I ordered a pair of FCR carbs from Frank! MX parts in Hengelo around 4 months back now.
I used him because he had good reports - and would get what I wanted.

The bank transfer has gone through - the last contact I had was acknowledging receipt of it.
Since that, no replies to my emails.

From this side of the world, I have no way of knowing what's happening in the Netherlands.
The site appears to be active - someone has lowered prices recently. Whether this is because it's closing
or simply reflecting conditions in Europe I can't guess.

So i'm asking - anyone dealt with him ? Live nearby ? Got any information at all ?

Thanks in advance

Greg

I can't manage Dutch in the middle of the night.
Ya haven't lived without doing the Dutch Oven, Greg! ;)

What is Dutch oven slang for?
A Dutch oven is a slang term for lying in bed with another person and pulling the covers over the person's head while flatulating, thereby creating an unpleasant situation in an enclosed space.

i might have to. Hope he speaks English. I can't manage Dutch in the middle of the night.
It would be unlikely that their phone contact didn't speak English as they are very active marketing everywhere. Otherwise surely one of our Dutch members could call about your order.

I used to travel around the NZ National roadrace series with a guy you'd never share a room with - more like a municipal incinerator than an oven.

Yes, Tippie, agreed, he should speak English.

In all the years that I have traveled to Holland (you get to go through the country a lot if you are a Laverda continental rallyist) I only ever met one person who did not speak at least some English, she was a peasant farmer and about 90 years young, we managed to work out that her son would be around soon and I should wait and drink this coffee, which I did, the "young son" was about 65 when I was (maybe 35) and all I wanted to do was pitch my tent for the night, which was rapidly agreed upon, and I was told to be at the farmhouse kitchen door at 06-30 for cooked breakfast!

I agree Clem.there's a lot of Dutch here in NZ. I've worked with many and found them very nice people who do speak english very well.
And a lot of course are into building motorcycles too.

I note that on the site, the shop is listed as closed - holidays. Suggests that he could be somewhere he can't return from easily now - or of course, covid. Some transparency would be nice.

Poor communication is a major issue that seems to arise as a topic here quite often. It doesn't do a business's goodwill much 'good' at all. Ignitech comes to mind - took an email from a native Czech speaker here in Melbourne to reopen dialogue and complete an order that I'd been negotiating and was almost done. There are many other examples, not singling Igni out.

For those who looked at this - still no reply to any emails.
Don't want to ring as it's too easy for no-one to speak english at that end.

How much influence does the local Chamber of Commerce have in Holland ? I see he's a member.

In such cases I am radical.

Search via Google which company is in the same building. e.g.: target-location
Call this company and ask the employee to hand over to your target-person a slip of paper with your telephone number and the request to call you back.

Alternatively, you can research the private address. If there is no private number there, I ask the neighbors for help accordingly.

So far it has always worked.

CASE 1: When I once bought a KBA Rapida 105 printing press for over 5 Mio EUR and it didn't work for months, I called the CEO's (secret) private number on a Sunday at 10 a.m. I told him that in the end he was the person most responsible if something escalated and that the fish smells allways from the head.
He was shocked, that I had his secret number. His mistake, he had given this number in the trade register as managing director when registering a beauty salon for his new (very young) girlfriend. :) Next day i had 3 more specialists and max. priority which brought the solution.

CASE 2: At the moment I was unable to reach a gardener for weeks who had stored 80 km away in a small village three large oleanders in winter - no mails, no telefone. At least I called the local pastor and told him I was worried about the gardener who was unavailable. Two days later the oleanders were back in the garden.
