An interesting read over this mornings espresso

I hadn?t realised , being new to Laverda world, how many changes there had been.  It?s a pity there is no one that could resurrect the Brand.  As a Morini lover , I was stoked to see the brand alive again , especially after seeing renderings of a possible 9 1/2 model.  But what they did , to me , was just disappointing.  I?m still waiting for a few more Italian companies to pick up the mantle as Triumph did and make some decent retro models based on the classics.  As unrealistic as that may be.  I was so sure Norton had nailed it with their new ranger 650, that I paid the deposit for one.  It would be great if Laverda?s could somehow come back.

But it really ends up being ... something completely other. Is a Bugatti Veyron a Bugatti like those incredible things that put them on the map a century or so ago? The break in continuity makes it all a tad hollow for me. The name is all that survives in the end.

A Zane needs a completely new powerplant for a start. And I can only imagine that a 'new' Laverda would mimic the general trend for hideous things that resemble Transformers! besides, the days of the internal combustion engine are done ... Laverda E-bike anyone?  :-X :o

I guess Q is right probably in most respects, but it would be pretty cool to see some modern representations of our old bikes, I would stick my hand up for a Morini 91/2 if they did it nicely. I guess that's why so many people have bought BMW minis, and VW bettles . Im not sure the Mini countryman is so cool, but I think they hit the nail on the head with the new mini clubman... I drive my wife's one as often as I can, it takes me back to being 15 again and driving my mates mini clubman.
The e bike thing will be cool, we have a dealer about 5 km from us with bikes and they are seriously cool, but batteries are still not there yet, in my opinion, a friend was testing electric propulsion in a open 40 race yacht, to get it off the dock and out to the race course... it didnt live up to the task in all respects, the only thing it was good for really was the batteries were heavier than the marine engine it would have had, which was a win as it wasn't classed as ballast! Slowly we are getting there with battery charging stations for electric cars, but the occasional person still gets a visit from the feds, as a friend of mine did, the electricity company didn't know he had an electric car, so they called the police, they all thought he had a group farm from the amount of electricity he was using, against the amount of kw he was contracted to.

I'm sure there are electric Zanes racing unless I dreamed it.
A couple of teams working on bikes for the initial TTx zero emission race used the 650 rolling chassis as a basis for their bikes. I?ve also seen race teams with ER6 engines shoe horned into a ghost chassis for super twin racing.

I should qualify that, I cancelled to order when I had heard nothing from Norton for some time,  I just had a feeling that something wasn?t right , and that the bike wouldn?t be on time . If at all , so I just swallowed the deposit and didn?t pay more when they asked, and cancelled the order.

If any one has any information on the two bikes that were prepared for the AMA series would be great, seens as I have one of them....
