Just to inform members that Andy Holbrook was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer a few months ago.
He asked me to post the details for him.....
He had "Whipples" procedure at the end of January, and the cancer, which is a rare form, "Squamous Cell Carcinoma"
(think that is the correct spelling) had settled on his pancreas, so it is not straightford Panceatic cancer....
He then had a biopsy after the initial surgery which found the "Squamous Cancer"...
Andy started Chemo yesterday 23rd May, and is taking daily chemo tablets, and will have the full chemo treatment
every 3 weeks.....
I spoke to Benny his wife this morning, and Andy was in bed as the treatment had knocked him out.
Clearly this will take a while to be treated, and for him to get back to normal.
I will update as and when necessary....

Today is Andy's Birthday, so Happy Birthday from Me.!!!

And before you ask..... Andy has not lost his hair and beard (yet), and is starting recovery....

Best wishes for a full recovery Andy,
I'm a 3 yr. cancer survivor who underwent massive chemo treatments, so I can relate. Get plenty of rest as needed, and try daily walking to build up your strength- it helps get your mind off the nausea. There's also plenty of support groups that can be helpful.
 
Bloody cancer is a bastard of a thing. I've ben through my own cancer journey and it was pretty scary, and the treatment was unpleasant. Even if you come out the other end cancer free, they never say you're cured. You're just "in remission". That's where I am now, in about my 3rd year of remission. It's always in the back of your mind that it could re-surface anywhere in your body.

For all you survivors, did the experience change the way you live in practical ways? I don’t mean in a seize the day, appreciate life more sort of way, but what things have you done or actions taken that you wouldn’t have done otherwise? Buy more bikes? Sell your bikes? Look up old friends? Tell old enemies to FO?

Live as if it was your last day and realise that the birds and the bees are worth more than all the rest.

It made absolutely no difference to me. I'm still the same lazy, apathetic, antisocial slob I was before I was diagnosed.
 
All the best to Andy and his Family, I hope he gets through this and can recover from it, though it sounds serious.

All the best also for his Birthday, may many more come!
