Any First Owners Out There?

Just thinking about the 750 twins and 1000 triples, after a discussion with my brother Marty who is the second owner of a Slater Brothers Laverda Jota which found it?s way to Adelaide after travelling overland from UK to Saudi Arabia and then by ship to here........

I wonder how many first owners and their bikes are still active, and on the forum.....

Nice!  When can we expect it out on a Ferns run, Terry.  Marty has his RGS, Le Mans, K-100 all on classic rego for me to select from, and he?d like to join us.  Also has his MV Tourismo Veloce Lusso but that?s a bit too new for a Ferns run I reckon.

My Guzzi 1100 Sport is still parked but will get an R1 front-end grafted on soon-ish to replace the horrible Marzocchi forks which bump-steer at every pothole on our wonderful (not) roads.  Then it needs a gearbox shim and can be resurrected.  The Le Mans cafe project is moving along nicely, with a whole pile of new internals coming from Germany as we speak.

Broke open the crate and put mine together in June 1976. I still ride it regularly, though mileages nowadays are only about 4,000 a year. I did over 4,000 in the first two months I owned it.

Still got my 80 Jota that I bought new in 80, 7232 is still going ok and so is its owner. He just just refuses to behave just like the bike

Lovin' the front number plate positioning, Tom. Probably safer than the old pedestrian slicers we had here, until August '75 when they became no longer compulsory, (on bikes registered after 2001, they are illegal).

Can't even remember ZIP-Codes were 3 digits at that time (well - then, I was 4 in 1971...  : ).

On Willy Werndl's Meeting in 2006 I think, a 750 SF owner came up to Piero and showed him his registration papers which showed him as the first owner of the bike since it was delivered beginning of the 70's. Piero was truely surprised and amazed.

It seems a few of us refuse to join the "I used to have one and wish I had never sold it" brigade. I know of numerous others who still have their first Laverda. My SF2 I bought in June 1975 started from pole position at Karlskoga last year.

In fact I am also one of these first owners of my 1981 Jota my old mate Tom bought his 1980 Jota new and at the time we both lived in Canberra, Tom still lives there.
A year later I bought my 81 Jota and we enjoyed many many rides, now all these years on we both still have these wonderful bikes and although we live in different states its always a great time when we get together on our Jotas that we bought all those years ago.
My bike only let me down once on the Burringbar range at night when the power wire broke off the back off the ignition switch, I patched it up and away I went to Brisbane one handed a lot of the time whilst holding the wire on the back of the switch.
Here is a shot of the two of us in Canberra and Tom's Jota with that butt ugly fairing, my bike would have less than 2000kms Tom's probably less.

Couldn't afford a new one - had to wait and buy my sister's housemate's SF1 when it was about a year and a half old (early 1975?). Still got it. Been everywhere on it. I probably rode a o lot of new ones before their owners though, working for the W Oz concessionaire
