Any tips on fitting 750 engine protection bars?

The standard Laverda engine protection bars to be fitted to a 1969 750 GT, any tips? Is it one of those blindingly obvious jobs where I’ll just look at it and go, “oh yes, I need a 14mm spanner” and that’s it?

Or, are there any tips to doing a simple job well? I’m not near the bike currently as I’m travelling but it’s on my list of jobs to do when I’m back. So, I’d like to be prepared.

Thanks in advance!

Check if the foremost left and right hand crankcase studs protrude further from the nuts than the others. If so, fitment is rather straightforward. If not, longer studs must first be fitted.

Do beware, the original GT crash bars (running under the headers) limit cornering clearance quite dramatically! The later SF1>/GTL type that run above the headers will probably fit as well, these offer loads more clearance.

Thanks Piet, I think the ones I have are the 'over the headers' type. You know what it's like when you have one of those jobs you're itching to get on with and also get out and ride the bike - but you're far from home for a while...

So looking forward to finishing running the GT in, and getting these small final jobs done.

I spent a good month sectioning a set of Enfield Indian crash bars to fit my Atlas, mucking about doing that was NOT FUN. Hope yours fits nice and easy.
