I bought a couple of small fuel pump parts from USA a few weeks ago. $40 for the parts and $70 for postage. I couldn't understand why the delivery cost was so high, but once the package arrived, I had a clue. The parts would have easily fitted in a box the size of a cigarette packet and still have room for padding, but the box that arrived was about 1000 times too big. Inside the box was a mass of polystyrene beads that I had to tip out on the floor and rummage through to find my little parts. I'd paid the freight cost for 10 litres of polystyrene beads (the non-biodegradable type - an environmental problem). The parts buried inside all of that were merely incidental. Why would anyone pack stuff like that?
 
That's just completely insane, Cam. No wonder the world is in a mess of shit!

I'm still waiting for some Ti bolts that tracking says arrived in Oz on Sept 27, but the same tracking shows them still in bloody customs 2 1/2 weeks later. I took a chance on AliExpress - they posted via Singapore Post and looks like they use Oz Post here - is it a quarantine thing? Coming from China?
 
The tank breather I order from Cal 26 days ago according to tracking has been sitting in a facility somewhere since the 22/ Sep. The sidestand that came from Texas arrived a week ago. Given up checking the tracking, it just shows in transit.
Makes me laugh watching these TV shows building stuff in days, what a joke
 
I bought a side stand from Canada a while back (pre-Covid) and it took 3 months to arrive. Looking at the various date stamps on the package, it was apparent that it arrived in Australia a few days after it was posted, then sat in a Customs store for 3 months before they cleared it for delivery. I presume it got lost in the store until someone moved a box and found it.
 
Pre Covid I may have been able to help, its 1200 km from my home but I go that way some times on motorcycle trips. However Ithe Canadian - US  border is shut to non critical travel and Wisconsin is a current Covid hot spot even if the border was open.

I don't recall any forum member from Wisconsin.

Eurocycleguy and Angonemoto are in the Chicago area but that's over 300km and more than 3 hours away by road.
Richard is in Minneapolis, but that's a bit further away than Chicago.

I dunno if you'll get someone to drive that far in Covid ravaged USA even if you cover their vehicle costs.

Maybe you should try a Harley forum. There would probably be a heap of guys around the factory in Milwaukee. That's not far from Appleton.
 
I wouldn't use the national post system. Use UPS, DHL or Fedex from the US to Australia,  They go through customs quicker, and often aren't more expensive than national posts

For a lot of shipping I do , I use "Mailboxes etc" which uses UPS , Mailboxes etc are all over europe and the states , They are often cheaper than taking packages straight to UPS

There is one called the UPS shop in Appleton WI. They package things too

I find private companies way more expensive than the post. Still state run here luckily.
DHL refused to ship some used mechanical parts because their sniffers would detect oil and not allow the package on the plane they said.
So I used the post. Cheaper, no problem and probably the same plane.

(Some of) my Ti stuff from China via AliExpress arrived. Sure enough, went to the closed-for-covid address but I took a gamble and found it at the first post office I rang. Stoked! Then realised it's only two bolts and two nuts; the rest of the order was still missing. Some more emails and now I'm pretty well positive the 'other' stuff is also there. Seems AliExpress get stuff in from as many suppliers as you choose from within their website, put them all on ONE order, but then the fukken stuff gets sent in different packages by different suppliers with different tracking numbers. I was given a tracking number ONLY for the little package that I collected today. Hopefully tomoz morning I have it all in my grubby little hands. If i'd been given the second tracking number it would have made a lot more sense! At the end of the day it still took 3 days to get from China to Oz customs, then 16 days to the post office - go figure.

Buying from AliExpress sure is confusing. Have to say, I was surprised and impressed with how quickly the seller of the 'missing' stuff got back to me - several emails, excellent English too. I'll see if I can buy direct from them next time I'm in a Ti kind a mood.
 
FINALLY! I got the second of my Ti parcels. Very nice stuff too. Shame about the AliExpress system: one order, one payment, two suppliers, two tracking numbers (of which i was only ever given ONE), automatic default to a defunct address with no option to change it, parcels arriving on different days and ending up at TWO different post offices!! I couldn't even find out who the Oz carriers were - it was a wild guess.

By comparison - I bought a Sidchrome 50-75mm micrometer from Grays Online ... was looking for a workshop vacuum cleaner! Put in a bid for $19 - and won the bloody thing. $15 postage (from Melbourne to Melbourne) and a buyers premium and some other trumped up charge brought the total to $42! But it arrived in two days - and it's new in the box - was supposed to be used. No complaints.
 
Dang nab it! :( I was there yesterday MachIVMotors. Picked up some Lav parts. Owner showed me around. I have NEVER seen so many MC parts in my life!
BUT I haven't been on the forum for a L  O  N  G time. Sorry :( :(
