....... and finally , finally ( for now ) ...... These are not the Ray Knight pics I was thinking of , but still nice ..........

.... The fuel tank in both pictures appears to be the extended range hump back one , which resided on Richard Slaters shop counter for many years ...... wonder where it is now ... ? .........

The tank is now at the Motor Museum at Jurby / Isle of Man

And Ray Knight was 93 recently, but not quite in the best of health unfortunately as he had a mini stroke.
However, some people may think he’s still about 70 as he always lied about his age in order to keep racing…..😀

None of the 4 Laverda’s finished the race. The 1200 broke 3 primary chains, always at the same spot on the track. They abandoned the race after 18 hours fearing this probably would happen a 4th time..

Marnix

.. Thanks Marnix ....... Only joking , but the primaries wouldn`t have been Renolds would they ? ..... I remember Richard Slater saying he had a spate of customer breakages with those , and if he ever saw another Renolds primary chain again in his life , then that would be one too many !! ......

( I `m guessing Reginas may have been the ones in this case , as they seemed to be the usual fitment , as far as I know , unless they used something else for racing .... ) .....

BTW ....... Would the other two Laverdas entered have been Endurance 1000`s ( Space Frames ) ? ....... I`m pretty sure I have seen duplex final drive chains fitted to those .... may be a picture on a previous page here ....... but not sure if that arrangement was always used ......

Cheers , Tony

BTW ( again ) ...... Just wondering if problems with the primary chains could be just as much down to clutch cush drive rubbers taking a hammering due to the rigours of racing conditions , rather than the chains themselves ....... or maybe allignment issues , with more rows ( triplex rather than duplex for example ) , magnifying any discrepancy ..... just a thought ........

The amount of money that tank must have witnessed passing from myself to Richard ( in return for Laverda consumables and services ) must have run into several thousand , at least .......... .................

Looks a fair bit more shiny than when I last saw it on Richard`s shop counter as well ........... A couple of Brembo stickers seem to have gone missing too , if I remember correctly ... ! .......

#18 is the 3CL based Laverda of then Dutch dealer (later importer) Jos Jansen with riders the Bloemhard brothers.

Rain at Spa, now that’s unusual. However, try doing a pit stop in just your underpants these days……

Here it is in 1977 after PK and Mick Hunt took the win at the Cadwell 1000km. Then in action in practice at the 1978 TT with PK still wearing his rookie jacket.
