1971 and Barry expresses his dislike for the TT.....he says he could go on and on about this and probably would given half a chance...

He may well have a point , but once World Championship status was removed then the risks are purely down to personal choice , not something forced upon you .

I`ll add Kreidler to the bikes I never realised he raced .

Preparing for the Thruxton 500 mile race 1972 , with previous years winner Dave Croxford on a Trident .

Entry list includes a Montesa King Scorpion ! ...plus a MZ ISDT Replica.....! ....What`s going on here....?....There`s obviously a separate 250 class all grouped together at the bottom , but these are off road bikes , although somewhat modified I guess , and if Bultacos can go well at Montjuic Park ...but then this is bloody Thruxton...I haven`t found the results yet so we will see...

BTW there`s a 1972 MZ ISDT Replica import from the `States here on UK eBay going at £8 grand...MZ used to refer to it meekly as their " Cross Country Motorcycle "....If I had a spare eight grand I`d be onto it like a shot...

Barry Sheene`s OW54 being prepared by Irv Kanemoto and Ken Fletcher (1981 ) ...

Take a close look at that front tyre ( or maybe rim ? )...what can you see...?...

Tyre mounting direction SEEMS to be incorrect...

As far as I can remember, there was only an arrow denoting direction for rear-wheel fitting back then, front wheel would be the exact opposite. This was because the uppermost layer of rubber would have an overlapping joint, the acceleration forces would rip it open if fitted incorrectly. As braking forces act in the opposite direction, the front tyre had to be fitted in the other direction, actually quite simple and obvious.

Took a while for directional arrows for front and rear fitment to be shown on the sidewalls.
