I believe the pedal conversion was actually carried out in the Netherlands , ( so the model was built there , in effect ) , before being delivered to the UK .....
The pedal construction was designed by the Dutch importers, but made at the factory, but it was not mounted there. It came with the bike and had to be mounted by the importers.
The British importers initially weren’t interested in importing the FS1, but it was Ludy who showed the FS1 to dealer Fowler who reacted very enthusiastically and demanded delivery. The rest is history. I believe that in 1974, 22000 Fizzies were sold in UK..

I don't think this one has been posted on here before but apologies if it has. C1978 Slaters advert for the Jota. Picture taken at Chateau Impney, not far from Slaters' premises.

1976 Thruxton endurance.
47 is Peter PK Davies (co rider was Martin Russell)
38 - Bill Fulton/Tony Carlton (BSA)
39 - Martin Sharpe/John Cowie (Gus Khun BMW)

The picture is lifted from the front of the programme for the following year's event.
If anyone knows how PK fared in the race (or in 1977 when he was still recovering from his Silverstone crash), please let me know

I have all the MCW`s for 1977 , all MCW`s I have are now sorted year by year , from 1968 to 1983 ..... Not sure if anything regarding the `77 race has already been put on here , but I will look through the 1977 papers , now it`s a bit easier , to see what I can find out ......... may be tomorrow , or the day after ........ :) .............

Have found 1977 reports ....... first a mention of the August Silverstone crash ...... IMG_20241005_193957_573~2.jpgIMG_20241005_194035_261.jpgIMG_20241005_194234_557.jpg

and final results showing 17 th place .....
Not where he would have wanted to finish but I was chatting to him last weekend about this race and he reminded me that he did it with an oversized right boot and a modified heel and toe gear change as he was still recovering from the Silverstone "hole in the foot" crash!

BTW ...... seeing Mike Trimby`s 26 th place at Thruxton reminds me of a story regarding the introduction of the Yamaha TZ700 / 750 ..........

The Yamaha was made available for general sale , a number having been despatched to the USA , and also a number allocated for the UK .......

Trimby intended to compete at the Daytona 200 on the TZ750 , , but the UK allocation had all been sold ..... so he travelled over to compete on his TZ350 instead .....

Sitting by the hotel pool overlooking Daytona beach , he spotted a TZ750 being ridden along the beach ...... not by a racer , but by some punter who had gone out and bought one just to ride about and pose on .......

As Trimby said ... " We could have strangled him ..... ! ... " ........

......... Mentioned this on the Cycle World You Tube post on the TZ750 , and a guy came back and said " That was my dad ... ! ... " ...... Apparently he had accepted a bet from some HD riders to ride it along the beach ............ It`s a small world ...... :) .........

And as Slaters would remind us ... The Laverda was a standard road going motorcycle , not a full on racer ........ ! .........

A bit off topic but here are a couple of pictures from PK and Roger Slater's pre Laverda days when Roger was marketing the Egli Vincents. The cover shot is from Mallory Park Race of the year 1979 on the 1000cc. He qualified for the final but I don't know where he finished (it was outside the top 10, Ago won). The b&w shot is 1972 Barcelona 24 hours at Montjuic Park. Number 4 is Ron Wittitch on the SFC. I don't know the result

Ron finished 4th with Dutch rider Jan Strijbis.

There`s a picture on here earlier somewhere of Roger Slater riding a Vincent Comet through the mud competing in a Press Trial ........

There was a article written by journalist Dave Minton , ( so maybe 90 % fact , 10 % decoration ) , that said Roger Slater traveled over to Italy with a Rapide engine , with a view to finding someone who could manufacture parts , or maybe even complete engines , for the Vincent V Twin .......

Major players like Moto Guzzi and Ducati told him to get lost , so he tried Laverda , who had just settled down with 750 production by this time ....

Laverda took a look at the Vincent , reckoned it wouldn`t a viable option from their point of view ....... but told Roger they were working on a 1000 cc engine of their own , showing him one of the early 981 development bikes ........ Forget the Vincent , would he be interested in becoming a Laverda distributor back in the UK ?

So Roger loaded up a 750 twin or two in the back of his van , drove back to the UK , sold them ......... and that`s how Slater Bros ( Engineering ) Ltd. ended up becoming Moto Laverda importers for the UK ....... ( According to the story ... ) .........

There is an account of this in the ILOC 50th anniversary book as told by Roger to Ted Aves.

I`ve still to get hold of a copy of that book ........ will have to do it soon ..... ! ....... My version is going by memory ....... I don`t think I have the Dave Minton article any more , so there may be slight differences between the two ...... ( That`s why I include all the apparentlys , I believes , it seems , etc. ........ I don`t claim my memory to be perfect ....... :) ..... ) ..........

Tony, you really should get a copy of the book, it's a fascinating read (even the articles that I wrote...)

When I was looking for a programme of the 50th ISDT, which incidentally was held in the IOM, I came across this programme. However, I don’t have the results to go with it.
