Argy progress

Thanks Peter, will do. The list is getting bigger though, not by much fortunately.

So after this afternoons fiddling, I screwed the idle mixture screws in then out 2, the middle one and left one were at least 1 turn too far out, idled real nice after doing that :) At least good enough to ride and get the roadworthy :)

Changed the oil and cleaned the filter. Those fucking half sealing rings on the muffler clamps are a total pain in the arse!! What's the trick with those????!!!!! The middle clamp is broken, added to the WH list.

Fixed the fuel level pickup, a bit of rust in it and had to bend the wiper down a bit so it contacted better and replace the rivets on the bracket so it was earthed.

Might attack the rev counter tonight and upgrade the instrument lighting to LEDs so you can actually like see it.....

Sorry about the lack of photos PC, hands were too dirty to hold the camera!!

Hi drikko, congrats on your new bike. I'm heading down the same refurbishment road this week, with a box full of stuff from the usual places. Please tell us how you change the clock lights to LED? Some kind of straight swap? My clocks are soooo dim. Cheers, Andrew

One of the guys on the K1100 forum does kits to swap all the bulbs on the K1100s. It is an awesome improvement. The green LEDs in the backlighting of the dash make the dash FAR clearer. So I'm going to pull the instrument cluster apart this week and see what bulbs are needed. Shouldn't be too hard, there's LED versions of most bulbs available these days. I may even put kits together for people here.

The beemer has all dash bulbs replaced, ir neutral light, alt, stop, indicators etc etc. Makes a BIG difference.

Im first in line  :P

So its running ok? Yeah

Middle clamp broken, means sucking air, means no good  :o

Do yourself a favour and slip round to the bosses to show him your new found GEM, and while your there he just might point you in the right direction  ;)

Plus hes got all the shit youll need

It's the exhaust clamp, not the inlet so I'm not too worried about it. As soon as I get it registered I'll be looking for an invite to Reds :)

So roadworthy booked for Monday. Spoke to him at length, he didn't care about the non adr brake hoses or the MPH speedo or even the wrong side low beam. He just wants to know its safe ie not going to fall off the road... fingers crossed!

Your honest and forthright nature when dealing with potential bureaucracy

stuns me - are you sure you're a Queenslander  :o

Never good to be leaking from the exhaust, tends to pull oil through the exhaust valve as a minimum, best to swap it out mannnnn

Yeeehhaahaahaha. Road Worthy is done, he even gave me a single seat mod plate although I have to put rivets into the holes where the rear pegs are. Need to get to Main Roads to rego it now later this week then we're right to go!!

Hey Drikko I'l tell you another good little mod that can also be a good insurance policy, buy a set of Andy Wagners inlet manifolds the special ones he has developed, I put a set on my SFC1K and my series 2 Jota gives a guarrantee of no air leaks at intake, those old rubber manifolds are difficult to tell if there are any small cracks drawing air.

Fiddled around tonight, noticed a loud clicking from the left fork, so drained them, only about 100mls of oil from the left and maybe 250 from the right, so drained and filled them with 7.5 as per threads here!!

Tried to adjust the left handle bar at the same time but the allen bolt is stuffed ie can't undo it. Not sure what to do about that but it can wait. Slapped some autosol around the alloy, looks even better!

Still not convinced it's running right, centre cylinder is still rough at idle, so when I get it to Reds for a chain swap hopefully he can point me in the right direction. Took the tacho to otto instruments to get fixed.

Off to get it registered tomorrow, yeehaa!!

And for Lemonjellys sake here's a pic, not of the bike, but the aftermath of a small party we had many years ago, off to the tip!!.....:-

Yay, got it registered today. Better do some work to pay for it all now!!

Still one cylinder not running at low throttle, might poke around the carbies tonight. When you open up the throttle it coughs a few times then pulls OK. Soon as you let it off it dies again.

Nearly there!

Plug gaps?
HT cable screwed in tight enough to plug cap?
Pilot jet blockage?
Valve clearances?
Ignition triggers equally gapped?
Original coils?
Try new plugs too.

I have new plugs in and gapped them, no difference. Pilot jets is the most likely culprit. It idles quite well on 2 cylinders!

Thanks for the pic Drikko but is it the new Tims Mirage>?  where is he anyone- Rufus?

Well the argy spent the day in laverda hospital aka heaven ie redax. To say I was made to feel welcome when I really felt like a burden is an understatement. We are truly blessed having these guys in Brisbane!

So we swapped the primary chain which was stuffed, the cam chain which wasn't but hey its easier to change now:)  checked the valve clearances and replaced 4 of the shims.  Stripped the carbs totally, put everything through the ultrasonic washer, rebuilt them, put it all back together and fire up. Bugger its still piss farting around backfiring. Double check the can timing, swapped the coils, took the inlet stubbs of, they were perfect, tried a sasvhe ignition instead of the DMC no change, leakdown test was nearly perfect.

Has to be the carbs still so mark is going to drop by tomorrow and check them out tomorrow. Fingers crossed we can find the culprit! :)

Once again I can't thank red and Max enough although red eating lobster in front of me while I had my Boston bun was a little hard to take hahahahaha :) but the vb made up for it.

You should heard my son moaning about me dragging him out of a party to take home......I've been driving you around for 18 years boy ..

So along came Sunday, we were able to score the services of the dellorto guru who with added expert input from phil they decided everything was wrong with these carbs. Wrong slides, needles, pilot jets, pilot adjusting screws etc. In fact the general consensus was how did it run at all?  So fixed all that with marks dellorto parts box and some old slides and it fired up and it idled on all 3 cylinders. There w as still a bit of mucking around coughing but by the time I got some fuel into it (id used 8 of the 11 kms reserve and just made it to the petrol station ) it seemed to start running nicely. Pulled like a 17 year old....

Only thing is it was idling at about 2000 revs so adjusted that back. Will give it some e exercise this weekend and see how it goes :)

Getting there :)
