Argy progress

thanks for the update. Yeah - you better check EVERYTHING on these bikes, never trust a DPO. Have found 135mm mains in the 1000SFC classic's Dell'Ortos yesterday when I reworked them completely. Nice what a warmed up ultrasonic can do to 23 years old carbs...  :D

Have changed many things already to the good, still have to open the cam-cover to see what the gaps are between cam and valve buckets and to change the cam chain. Primary chain will be changed, too, as it has an unknown amount of kilometers done (Bike has 50.000 roughly; if it was done in time, next change is just 10.000km away anyway...). Then polishing, cleaning, servicing the forks, new rubber, new brake disks and a general check-over with a new battery and I should be done for the "T?V"...  ;)

Cross my fingers for your Dell'Orto setup!

Don't just worry about the DPO, got one here at the moment that has just been rebuilt by a well known "specialist".....with a bent rod amongst numerous other horrors......

Pretty sure it wasn't the PO who played around with it, but the PPO. There's quite a few other mods too like RGA higher handles bars and bar cover apparently, not that I noticed it till it was pointed out and an aftermarket oil cooler all quite well done.

Promise I'll get pics up later in the week, got some good ones with her clothes off in Reds shed. :o :o

It's a shame these well known specialists can't be named. People like me are just left guessing and maybe unfairly assuming the wrong company is to blame.

Oh, don't worry, you'll get it right... :-X

I have to ask , what is a DPO ? here's what I've been taking it as : Dumb previous owner, dealer previous owner, Dead previous owner !

ROb

Hey drikko. Reading your updates with interest and I share your pain. My DPO bored out my RGS carbs (with a food-mixer?) and they are write offs... and I was told that the valve clearances were adjusted recently... um they were a country mile out  :o

So, I'm working on mine same time as you and I echo the advice to check everything and trust nothing. The list has already been given by the experts. I  also added a DMC.  Oh and check with the forum if you take the cam carriers out. A DMW?  (dumb manual writer) gives the torque as 32ft/lb which is too tight and I stripped a stud  :(

On the positive side... I have had incredible support from people on the forum and my credit card company send me personal notes of thanks for all the business  ;)

All part of the Laverda baptism I guess. I'm looking forward soooo much to getting it all done for summer rides  8)  Andrew

Hey Andrew, when it came to cam chain and cam lifting time, Red jumped in and gave me a personal training course on how to do it, just awesome  ;) ;)

And yep 32ft/lbs is wrong and don't forget the outer ones are different to the inner ones!!

I could have sworn I took more photos than this. Red took some of it when back together for his wall of shame :) Perhaps you could email me one and I'll post it red?

So here she is all naked:-

Oh crap there's a lotta bits in dem dere carburetta tings, even all the bits in the bright shiny tray on the lower left have to fit in somewhere!!...:-

Red muttering something about once you've had black, couldn't quite hear the rest..... You can see some of the wall of shame in the upper right of the photo:-

Couldn't think of a better way to spend the weekend except possibly on the beach with a ton of cold beer getting a hea......sorry got carried away again, lets not digress.

Looking good at the Doctors Drikko.  Last two pics are the same btw.

You never really struck me as a beach person Drikko  :P

Sorry about that folks, also forgot the IMG surrounds, all fixed.

Well there you go Cosi, surprises surprises....more like a beached whale really in my case.

here is a shot with its clothes back on

good couple of days in the shed with Derek and the lads
plenty of vistors, Laverda work getting done, top weather
rather be working on Laverda's in the shed than sitting on a beach feeding my skin cancer cells
