Now it`s that time of year ( where I am anyway ) , where the weather tends to alternate between wet and mild , and dry and bloody freezing ...... So I tend to look for other ways of spending my time , other than venturing out on the bike , when the weatherman He say No ........
One way is to watch the many and varied motorcycling channels on You Tube ....... I expect many of you are familiar with many of them .... but since I`ve got the Lenovo up and working anyway , I thought I`d list a few ( just a few ) , of the ones I tend to gravitate towards ......
Missenden Flyer : Rides around the Chilterns on a selection of new bikes borrowed from the importers , as well as updates on his own collection ..... He`s ok , but can be a little irritating at times .... doesn`t know what SP stands for , for example , and when giving " in depth " summaries of a bike , will include things like " What`s under the seat " ... ? , and " What does the horn sound like " ...... ??????? .... To be fair , these are questions regularly sent in by his viewers , but .... What does the horn sound like ? ..... Who cares , who bloody cares ..... He`s ok really , though ......
Lunaris : French bloke based near Rouen ...... Rides around on a varied selection of used bikes , dating from the late `eighties up to almost new ....... mostly large capacity stuff , with the odd 125 thrown in as well ...... Does a 0 - 100 kph test on a quiet stretch of road next to what looks like the local cement works ( doesn`t start the clock until he`s actually got the wheels rolling , but he does this every time , so at least the results are consistent ) , does a twisty road handling test , and a 160 kph autoroute blast as well .... Quite enjoy these ..... and it also means my French is improving ........ I now know the correct French pronounciation of R1 is " errrrrr unnnnnn " .....
Electric Sun : A couple of Russian blokes who take apart / repair maxi - scooters ( Yamaha T-Max , Suzuki Burgman , Gilera GP .... that sort of thing ) , and then take them for a road test around the streets of Moscow ......
CJ Media : Young ginger haired American who rebuilds crashed sportbikes .... Very good this one ...... If you find fitting a DMC to a Laverda triple difficult , then just take a look at what he has to deal with in the way of electrics here ... It`ll make you wet your pants ..... Has a habit of throwing rebuilt bikes off the edges of hillsides ( Yamaha R1M ) ....... Ends each rebuild instalment with a verse from the Old Testament ......
Paul Henshaw : Welsh bloke ( So don`t expect too much in the way of light hearted humour ) , who runs Performance Classics ................ Lots of videos of runs around the local roads on old English bikes ................. Rides a Trials Cub over the top of a soggy Welsh mountain ...... Narrowly avoids oncoming car drivers ( ... " you c*nt ... " ) , and so on ...... Dislikes Mark ( 20 mph limit ) Drakeford with a vengeance ....... If you want to know the difference between Indian and Redditch Enfields , and have strong opinions on how to properly to tickle a carb , then this is the place for you .......
There are also the one -off videos ............... like the one of a bloke ( who puts me in mind of Richard Slater ) , who works in a motorcycle shop in a back street in Hyderabad ( Pakistan version ) ................ who will show you how to clean / inspect / balance a bank of BDSR 40 Mikunis ; and another chap from Hyderabad ( Indian version ) , who will show you how to repair a leaking coolant hose with some epoxy adhesive / hardener stuff ........... ( " You know , you have to treat your motorcycle the same way you would a woman ...... with lots of respect , and a high degree of maintenance " ... ) , he tells us with a knowing smile ........
So when it`s not dry and mild this winter , you know where you`ll find me ..... Feet up , in front of the screen , with a good supply of Twix bars , and a large bottle of Cherry Coke ........ Roll on next Spring .......
