Axial play, Clutch centre?

Hi peeps,

Tell me please, should the clutch centre - RGS Corsa btw - have any axial movement on the shaft? Mine moves a good half milimetre before the circlip stops it ...

0.5 sounds a bit much. Spec for the outer drum is 0.10 to 0.25.

Should be quite tight radially and with no perceptiple axial play on the mainshaft. 0.5 isn't much, but under certain circumstances that will be missing from the total clutch throw-out distance, which isn't very copious to begin with. No problem to shim it to zero, but I'd be more concerned why the play is there in the first place.

I've never come across a hub with that much play, normal range would be around 0.05-0.10mm, which can be neglected. I modify loose-fitting hubs with an o-ring in the rear, as found in later Breganze 750s, as a measure to reduce clutch rattle.

Thanks Piet, Paul. (Yup, I'd seen that the late twins had an O ring, but that it was absent from the Triples ...)

I can't even begin to guess why this play is there. There's no radial movement, btw.

Ok, I'll shim it out. Shim behind the centre, or under the circlip? Will it make any difference in practice, do ya think?

Also:
Where is this washer (33 116 201) meant to go? I mean, which side of the actuating bar? Like this first drawing?

Mine wasn't. It was up against the needle bearings in the drum, more like the second drawing implies ...

That is a thrust washer for the drum bearing, one each side of the bearing please. Drawing is a bit misleading.

Ta, Piet. That makes sense. I couldn't see what function it would be performing in that position.
